Octavio Dotel has reached a preliminary agreement with the Kansas City Royals for one-year worth about $5 million. The reliever missed most of the last 1 1/2 seasons with the New York Yankees due to an elbow surgery. The Royals organization saw him pitch down in the Dominican Republic last week and they were very impressed with his recovery. They expect him to come in and close out games at the end.

The New York Mets have told shortstop Jose Reyes that he is not allowed to play winter ball in the Dominican Republic for the Cibao Gigantes. The Mets want to make sure that Reyes is healthy and not risk injury so he will be ready for the 2007 season. Reyes had a huge season this past year winning the Silver Slugger award which is given to the best offensive performer at each position.
