Preparing for a Hangover
Thank god it's Friday and now I can truly prepare myself for a weekend of chasing the dragon while shucking and jiving the sport hangover I inevitably rock each weekend. Action abounds this weekend, so let's take a quick trip through the top games and events that the "fall back" weekend offers us.
Be sure to catch the Suns vs. Lakers on Friday night. With all the rumors swirling it is increasingly difficult to know if and when we'll be seeing the end of the Kobe era in L.A. The Suns are by far a better team than the hapless Lakers, but #24 routinely torches the Suns for 40+. No doubt he'll be gunning tonight because can the Mamba really rely on Walton and the scrubs to pitch in? For those of you in Texas check out the Spurs vs. Kings. Not that is a great matchup, but Ron Artest is in the house. He's one of the four players I'd pay to see play. He's talented, aggressive, and he sports the "I give a damn" attitude better than anyone in sports. C'mon, he wears number 93. The game of the night pits the Wizards against the Celtics. Agent Zero versus the Celtics Cerebrus (three-headed dog who guarded Hades for those of you who are slow). How will KG, Pierce, and Allen coexist? What video game will Arenas play at halftime? This game will be spectacular. As a fun exercise, notice the look on Paul Pierce's face everytime Ray Allen shoots. Can Inglewood Paul handle anyone else shooting? Ask Antoine Walker? NCAA Saturday has a few great games. For my Southern brothers LSU and the Crimson Tide duke it out. Saban vs. Miles. It's not quite Bear Bryant vs. Shug Jordan but it's going to be good. LSU will win. Ohio "we're number one without beating anyone" State takes on the badgers of Wisconsin. Ohio State will win, but I watched this show on the Discovery Channel last night that documented the lifestyle of the badger, and boy do I want a badger more than a dyslexic kid wants a "god" for Christmas. Badgers are cool. Arizona State and Oregon meet in a showdown that has National Championship implications. I've done my share of hallucinogens, but this trip tops them all. Two Pac-10 teams not named USC vying for the Championship? Far out. Super Sunday comes 3 months early when the Colts and Pats go heads up in Indy. No matter who you pull for or who wins, we all come out looking and feeling like champs. There's no losing in this one because the teams will probably meet in the AFC Championship anyhow, so we're almost guaranteed a rematch. Bring it on! The Cowboys and Eagles reunite and Donovan McNabb has fueled the flames by saying the road to the NFC East title goes through Philly. Funny...the last I checked Philly had a losing record. That's ballsy McNabb. He must be sipping on some nice Campbell's soup with his annoying mom. Stock up on refreshments and tape up that remote control finger because this weekend promises to be great. By the way, if you're real hard core, check out the Calzaghe-Kessler fight on Saturday night. You'll know your're chasing the high if you jump on that train. Don't forget to turn back your clocks.
