As if the news wasn’t bad enough today that J.J. Putz may need elbow surgery, SNY Reporter Kevin Burkhardt just revealed via Twitter that Jose Reyes has a tear in his hamstring.Jose Reyes

The Mets have not yet disclosed how long he will be out, however the word around the blogosphere is that he will be out until at least the All Star break. Even then, one has to wonder how healthy Reyes will be, especially since speed and running are a huge part of his game.

With injuries to both reserve shortstops, Ramon Martinez and Alex Cora, it may be wise for the team to pursue a veteran shortstop to help assist in manning the position.

One name to consider is free agent Ray Durham. Durham, who was once a star with the San Francisco Giants, isn’t a shortstop by trade. However, he is a great defender and most likely wouldn’t have trouble filling in for a few months. He also brings a decent bat into the lineup. As recently as last season he hit .289 and drove in 45 runs.

Another player that the Mets should consider is former Met, Damion Easley. Like I’ve said over and over Easley is familiar with the New York market and actually had a pretty good two year tenure with the team.

Regardless which direction the team decides to go in it is evident that a move must be made to preserve the Mets chances of making the playoffs.

Despite Ailments, Streaking Mets Keep NL East Tight

Really? Come on. If this is a surprise then the last few years must be a bit fuzzy to the memory. Plan C Starts Now

We now live in a world in which we actually find ourselves thinking, "I feel much better now that we have Alex Cora back." Welcome to the unexpected summer of the 2009 New York Mets. Stalwarts are now sidelined: No Carlos Delgado and no Jose Reyes. Offseason acquisitions and reacquisitions are now idle: No J.J. Putz and no Oliver Perez. Temps are now past-tenses: See...

Daniel Murphy, All Is Forgiven

There were at least five people at last night’s Mets/Nats game wearing “I’m Calling It Shea” T-shirts, and two of them are shown above. And there may soon be many more, because the dude sitting next to me (who also took the photo of us) liked the shirts so much that he wants to do a bulk order for a group outing that he’s planning for a game later this...

BELTRAN RECOVERS FROM STOMACH AILMENT

'EMBARRASSED' AS BUCS SWEEP METS

Which Pitchers Are Stricken With More Misfortune?

Last night, the Mets wasted another quality start by Johan Santana, scoring just one run off Pirates pitchers Zach Duke. Sure, Duke's an ace and one of the top pitchers in the National League Central, but in five of Johan's eleven starts, the Mets have been held to two runs or less. Santana, possibly the best pitcher in baseball, is not getting his much-deserved wins. Is this a case...
