Another Cubs Blog:
Finally! Somebody in the organization says it. Ryan Theriot needlessly diving around the field isn’t hustling. Alan Trammel called it false hustle. To Theriot’s credit, he’s stayed on his feet much better this year. As a result, and this is no surprise, he’s actually made a few plays in the hole. Who knew if you stayed on your feet you could make more plays? His diving around the infield has always irritated me. Theriot knows he’s not going to convert 95% of those into outs, but dives anyway. There’s only one reason why you’d do that: it makes it look like you’re hustling despite giving no additional effort. Not to mention, the odds of Theriot throwing anybody out once he leaves his feet is slim to none. He can get the force out at 2nd if he dives on balls to his left, but he’s not getting anybody at 1st once he leaves his feet unless his last name is Molina and his first name is Bengie. Theriot could field a sharply hit ball into the LF corner and thrown Molina out at 1st.

Hit a Home Run, Get Accused of Taking Steroids
If you’d like to know why steroids make a great story, ask the Chicago newspapers this week. They’ve taken one tiny insinuation made completely tongue-in-cheek by one columnist and turned it a tempest in a Theriot-sized teapot. That Theriot would be petite Ryan Theriot, female fan favorite and infielder for the Chicago Cubs.
Ryan Theriot Amused by Steroid Insinuations
Ryan Theriot is not bothered that people are beginning to whisper behind their hands about the possibility that some illegal performance enhancing substances could be behind his recent home run binge. In fact, Theriot thinks the insinuations are rather amusing:
Ryan Theriot owes his power surge to a change in his approach at the plate, the [...]
Two More Dingers for Ryan Theriot as Cubs Win 6-4 in 8
Ryan Theriot hit 1 home run all of 2008. In 2009 he already has 5, 2 coming in Wednesday night’s rain-shortened 6-4 win over the Padres. Far be it from me to accuse one of our own Cubbies of doing steroids, but…I’m sorry, but in this day and age, you just can’t help being suspicious [...]
