In fantasy baseball, the closer is arguably the most important position to draft for. Saves and earned run average are absolutely vital to your fantasy team's success, as those categories count the same as any others.
Let's take a look at five closers to avoid like the Plague on draft day this season: Ryan Dempster, Al Reyes, Joe Borowski, Eric Gagne, and Todd Jones.

I agree with Al Reyes because Troy Percival will earn most the saves in Tampa. Dempster may not even remain the closer with Carlos Marmol pitching lights out. Borowski and Gagne if healthy will pick up a decent amount of saves though if healthy, same with the grizzly vet Todd Jones.

You may want to add Brad lidge to that list. He has been shaky at best the last two years!
-
Hopefully Lidge will be healthy first after his knee surgery. This will be his first season as a member of the Philadelphia Phillies.

Yeah, as it stands right now, Dempster is auditioning for the rotation -- where he dominated at one time with the Marlins (14-10 and 15-12 on terrible teams in '00 & '01) -- but let me be clear, won't be dominant in any role...starter, closer, middle relief. He's just another arm out there. Marmol should be dominant once he settles into the role.

Transaction: Mets sign Al Reyes
Another Reyes is joining the Mets. This time, it's reliever Al Reyes, who was released by the Tampa Rays two weeks ago. Reyes was 2-2 with a 4.37 ERA with Tampa this season. He had two stints on the disabled list.
