I spent most of the day doing laundry, and caught parts of four different games here in the Man Cave. That, plus staring down the barrel at my Stat Tracker at three different fantasy leagues, leads me to pull the following nuggets of wisdom out of my nethers.1) If anyone has seen Jimmy Rollins' bat or head, would you please call the Phillies? After today's 0-for-4 festival of weakness, the leadoff hitter for the defending world champions is hitting .217 with a .608 OPS, far and away the worst numbers of his career. He's not even stealing bases worth a damn (10 for 15), at least not in comparison with his usual self. Given that the man is only 30 and was born in America (which is to say, his birth certificate does not have the usual Dominican issues), and I bid way too much for him at auction, I'd like to know what the hell the deal is. So would Philly Fan, who has watched his team drop six in a row on a 1-8 homestand that was one of the worst in franchise history, wh...

All Star Balloting: Rollins Drops To Second
Jimmy Rollins has dropped to second place in the all star balloting behind Marlins shortstop Hanley Ramirez. Rollins trails by only 154,000 votes.
Chase Utley is no longer the National League’s overall leader. Albert Pujols has the most votes with 2,934,794, edging Utley who has 2,922,796. Utley continues to lead all second baseman, leading Orlando Hudson by [...]
Philadelphia tells clueless Phils to take a hike
A capacity crowd watched the Orioles complete the sweep, ending one of the worst Phillies' homestands in history. Four hits and a run was all the Phils could squeeze from their lifeless bodies, beaten for six losses in a row in a 1-8 homestand. A carbon copy if last June, the story remains unchanged for good-glove, no-hit shortstop Jimmy Rollins, hitless in his last seven at...
Descent (into Madness)
The Phillies completed a 1-8 interleague homestand, polishing off their second consecutive sweep, with a 2-1 loss to the Orioles, on Sunday. The Phils overcame an early 1-0 lead, riding a four-hit attack to their sixth loss in a row. Cole Hamels was discredited with the loss, his third in seven decisions, but he had plenty of support in the losing effort.
Hamels pitched eight innings...
Dead Headline
When Ryan Howard jacked his majestic 3-run pinch hit homerun to put the Phils ahead on Saturday night, I had the next day's headline ready to go- "From Hospital to Hero". Much to my dismay Ryan Madson came in and became the goat. Things haven't been going too well in PhillieLand lately. With the way they're playing, it's hard to stay positive, but I offer these nuggets of joy:...
Guest Post: A Look At Some Slow Starts
This is the third guest post from my buddy James Miller, and just the fourth in the brief history of Sliding Into Home. Hopefully there are many more as time goes on.Today, he takes a look at some of the slow starts from around the league. We're just about 1/3 of the way through the 2009 season and I couldn't help but notice some of the surprisingly awful numbers certain players...
Get lost, Phillies, and don't come back until you are ready to win at home
On the road, they are the best team in baseball. At home, they are as bad as the Nationals. That's your 2009 Phillies, everyone.Since lamenting in my post last week about their home woes, the Phillies proceeded to lose four more games at home, bringing their home record to 13-22, the second worst home record in baseball. On the road, the Phillies are still a remarkable 23...
Pitiful Phillies lose 8 of 9 at home, still lead NL East
Those games (particularly the Saturday night game) were so painful to watch that I'm not going to re-live the pain by writing about them. If you want a good recap of the series, Todd Zolecki has a good one here. I really wouldn't have much to add to what he said.
Now we head to Tampa Bay, and I really don't see things looking up. David Price vs. Jamie Moyer doesn'...
