Thanks,

Gotta disagree with that one. If Ryan ends up being on the DL for an extended period, then the reigns will eventually be turned over to the returning League. Reyes has been solid in the role, and I don't think the Rays have huge plans for Stokes in the future. Brian is already 27, and they seem content to give McClung or Orvella a 100 or so shots at the role. This whole rant doesn't mention the possibility of Marcum getting another save opp in the short term.

Just in case, by rant I mean mine, not your article. While I disagree with it, I still enjoyed it.

I've seen Reyes pitch twice now and have come away impressed. I thought I was watching a ticking time-bomb, but he actually showed decent stuff. Mopupduty makes a good point though. McClung wll probably get another 100 chances to close. When he fails at that, the team will probably promote him to general manager and eventually he'll be offered to buy the team. Why that guy still has a uniform is beyond me. He throws the straightest, most hittable 100 MPH fastball in the game. Since they're both unproven, I'd go with the one who has the better job security (until Ryan returns) and that's Frasor.

I actually do think that Reyes is a better option than Frasor. I wouldn't be surprised to see Marcum get some chances in Toronto.

Reyes has been Todd Jones esq. After blowing yet another win, the Rays have the worst bullpen in baseball, with a 5.88 ERA. Only Reyes and Glover have era's under 5.00 for the Rays pen, so I can't see them moving Reyes out of the role when everyone else is so god awful.

I tend to agree, Reyes is a better short term pickup than Frasor (I did just pick him up myself) as I see him having a longer leash in Tampa than Frasor will have in Toronto. Mostly because I expect League to get the closers role once he comes off the DL.

Ryan blows another save. Is a big $$$ Closer contract worth it?
Is their really a reason to spend $10+ million on a closer when you can get a marginally (3% - 4% Save conversion rate) poorer closer at a 50%+ discount?

You have to feel bad for the Yankees at this point as their pitching staff is decimated. (ok...not too bad)
Its interesting to look at Arod's contribution this year, clearly better than in years past, but still not excelling in clutch situations (aside from the granny to win it) as much as you might think. The trick is he has been in high leverage at bats 11% more than any...
Mets trimming the Fat,... I mean Roster
In a pair of minor moves made before the game, the Mets New York Mets released veteran reliever Al Reyes and sent catcher Gustavo Molina back to Venezuela so he could get ready to play winter ball. Al Reyes had not appeared in any games since being signed and called up at the start of the month.
Al Reyes released, Molina sent home...
What an indictment it is when your released after it takes the Mets seven relievers to hold onto a game against a last place team that they had a six run lead in and your not one of the pitchers involved in the meltdown. That's what Al Reyes faced today when he was released prior to the game. Reyes never made one relief appearance with the Mets, many including myself thought...
Wagner down the Mets should get Reyes III
The Mets received very bad news today after Billy Wagner's simulated inning, Billy's forearm is fine but his elbow is now sore. Wagner will not be coming off the DL on Monday and is heading back to NY to have the elbow examined. The Mets have been piecing together saves since Wags went on the DL and were desperately hoping to get him back in the shortest amount of time.Many...
Mets make a trade: Ahern for Ayala
Well it's not the player I expected ( Al Reyes) but at least they made a move and acquired a relief arm. It was said at the deadline that Omar was attempting to acquire Luis Ayala but that the price was too high. The Nats have been obsessed with finding a young starting quality 2B, they set Jon Rauch to Arizona for 2B Emilio Bonifacio who is now their starter while hitting .228...
