PREGAME: The battle for last place is underway. The Tigers have a 2 game lead, that could evaporate if they keep playing their current brand of baseball.
The Tigers send out Zach Miner, who can thank the Royals for being a large part of his success as a starter. In 3 starts [...]SHARETHIS.addEntry({ title: "Game 155: Royals at Tigers", url: "http://www.detroittigersweblog.com/2008/09/game-155-royals-at-tigers-2/" });

George Brett and that time at the Bellagio
George Brett, the former Kansas City Royals' star, is most widely remembered for his 'Pine Tar incident'. But that could change once you see this video.
UPDATE: VIDEO HAS NOT BEEN TAKEN DOWN.
What Does That Even Mean?
"The days of babysitting and milking along are over."
- Quoth, Smokin' Jim Leyland
Can anyone explain to me what in the hell he's talking about? What kind of an old coot rants about babysitting and milking? In fact, who's been getting babysat and milked? Certainly not Justin Verlander, who throws something like 300 pitches per outing. [...]
Detroit Tigers History Vol. 2: Li'l Rastus
A little over two months ago Detroit City Councilwoman Barbara Rose-Collins created a mini-controversy when she stated that she wasn't sympathetic towards the efforts to save Tiger Stadium because of her childhood memories of the racist history of baseball at large and more specifically the steadfast refusal of former team owner and horseless carriage magnate Walter Briggs to...
Fan of the Week :: Louisville Chugger
[Be sure to check out our new morning feature entitled "The Morning Tailgate" - posted daily in, well, the mornings.]
Our fan hunters did a little investigative journalism in Columbia, Missouri this past weekend when the Mizzou Tigers took down the University of Buffalo, 42-21.
Much like George Constanza's urge to combine the features of food, sex, and television...
Fausto Carmona vs Gary Sheffield fight
Who doesn't love a good brawl especially when it deals with two heavyweights like Gary Sheffield and Fausto Carmona. The Cleveland Indians pitcher beaned Sheffield, who was none too please. Tensions were high and then exploded as Sheff charged the mound, was put in a headlock and repeatedly hit on top of his head by Carmona. I expected more out of Gary!

Game 156: Royals at Tigers
PREGAME: It will be Zach Grienke and Freddy Garcia. The two pitchers combined to allow 1 run in 12 innings their last times out. I'm going to this one, and my track record isn't good, so I don't have high hopes.

The Detroit Tigers slugger is still kind of upset about that whole brawl thing.
NCAA Week 4 Power Rankings
Remember this is all about Quality Wins and Bad Losses so if you lose to a top ranked team its not going to kill you, if you lose to Arkansas St. in the opener it will haunt you the entire season. The SEC had big matchups this weekend and the chips fell exactly where I expected them to with LSU, Bama, Florida and UGA looking like the class of the conference.1. USC - The idle Trojans...
Tigers blogger done good
Props to Eddie at Tigers Thoughts. Eddie back calculated the Elias free agent rankings earlier this year and published them on his blog. This got a lot of put in the 'sphere, but now Jon Paul Morosi has written about it for the Freep.
Congrats to Eddie and kudos to Morosi for giving him [...]SHARETHIS.addEntry({ title: "Tigers blogger done good", url: "http:...
Back breakers
Tigers radio announcer Dan Dickerson has experienced the misery of this season up close. Probably to up close. What makes him a professional is that when the Tigers surrender a late inning homer to blow a lead, or a game, he doesn't get to swear like the rest of us do. I [...]SHARETHIS.addEntry({ title: "Back breakers", url: "http://www.detroittigersweblog.com...
Willis to Boston?
According to Jon Paul Morosi, the Tigers will look to trade one of their pitchers this offseason and will eye a shortstop in return. He points out that the Red Sox want to unload Julio Lugo to make room for Jed Lowrie, a new fan favorite and potential long term replacement at shortstop. If the Red Sox were to trade Lugo for Willis, both of whom are locked up through 2010, they would...

They're saying Victor Martinez will be back up with the Tribe very soon. That's the the good news. The not-so-good news - Travis Hafner's shoulder is barking again.According to the Plain Dealer's Web site, Hafner was kept out of the lineup down in Buffalo yesterday and today because of pain in his shoulder. This would seem to be a setback by any definition of the word. But that just...
You PECOTA Be S#!tting Me
For some bizarre reason the PECOTA rankings are one of the most respected preseason prediction rankings in baseball. These rankings are designed and formulated by former Royals utility infielder Bill Pecota, who spends each offseason compiling rankings for every player on every team, all from the comfort of his mother's basement, assisted only by [...]
eBay Watch: WPAG Wall Clock (1940s)
This week on eBay this beauty popped up on eBay–it's a 1940s-era WPAG wall clock:
I didn't that know WPAG also broadcasted on FM which is always cool. You can hear the Lions and Tigers on 97.1FM these days and it's a treat, except of course that it's the Lions and Tigers playing. The [...]
