Ok so they are getting rid of a lefty bat and are making room for another righty on the bench. Don't know about Sheff but Bruntlett has been showing he can hit the ball this spring, and he is a pretty good defensive option as a spell outfielder. Does anyone know if Donald is guaranteed to go back to minors, or whats going on with Cairo? What are their statuses, assuming they don't land Sheffield are either of them potential bench right handed bats?
PLAYERS:
Matt Stairs,
Geoff Jenkins,
Jayson Werth,
Gary Sheffield
TEAMS: Philadelphia Phillies, Detroit Tigers
TEAMS: Philadelphia Phillies, Detroit Tigers
In an effort to make room for Matt Stairs, or to possibly acquire another right handed bat, the Phillies have released outfielder Geoff Jenkins. Jenkins spent one year with the Phils and hit .246 with 9 homers. He was signed last offseason with the thought that he would be a solid platoon partner with Jayson Werth in right but he never really got his bat going. Jenkins will likely be picked up by another team and should have no regrets about his one championship season in Philly.Releasing Jenkins forces the Phils...Click for more on Jenkins and the possibility of Sheffield on the Phillies...

donald went back to the minors last week

If the Phils acquire no one else, Cairo and Stairs make the team. Donald is in the minors. Bruntlett is already on the team

I'd be shocked if Sheffield came here for as little work as he will most likely get. I don't really think he fits well with our scheme either. The MO of late has been to bring in role players that fit in with the team model. Not exactly Sheff.

no one in the AL is interested in Sheff. he wants to play for TB, but the Rays invested money in our boy, Pat the Bat. the Phillies are probably the most attractive option for him....Now, i know we need R handed hitting depth, but at what cost? and i'm not talking money. i just can't stand Sheff.

Ruben said the front office has already contacted sheff now they are playing the waiting game. Donald is gonna stay in Leigh with corrasco untill someone muffs up or gets hurt and stairs has already made the team.

The Reds and Sheffield
The news came out today that the Reds officially have interest in Gary Sheffield. Really? Sheff was a great talent in his prime, but it seems to me like he's another Griffey right now. He has great career numbers, and still gets respect at the plate (499 career home runs) but he's been hampered by injuries the past couple seasons and hasn't been at his best. There'...

Phillies own Atlanta, finish 9 for 9 against Braves in the ATL
The Phillies continue to roll by beating the teams they are supposed to, like the lowly Atlanta Braves. The Phils completed their third 3 game sweep of the Braves in Atlanta this season, making it 9 victories over the Braves in Atlanta, a record sweep for any visiting team playing the Braves. To say the Phillies own the Braves this season is fair, considering their 13-2 record overall...
