Dunn and Dunner:
John Fay:
Just as I type this I hear some caller on the radio say "We don't have a pitcher that scares anyone."
Adam Rosales was also optioned which makes me think that the Reds don't trust that Gonzales is going to be able to play a full game for a while and want Paul Janish to be a late inning guy.

I guess that means we keep Darnell McDonald and his career sub .400 OPS, who gives a shit if its only 42 ABs the guy sucks. Why on earth would this team want someone who can actually hit what the game is named after. Never to early to start the losing. Someone please inform me on how we go from trying to get Gary Sheffield, who hasn't played the much OF since 2005, because hes a right handed power hitter to dumping the only right handed power hitting outfielder we had in spring training? The Reds cut Jonny Gomes. He has an offer to go to Triple-A
"I'm not sure," he said.
Gomes seemed like a semi-lock to make it.
"I'm a little surprised," he said. "I had a good spring. I played left, right. I went to first base with open arms. But it didn't work out. They can't keep everybody."

Midday: Lots to follow as clubs finalize rosters
Bodies are shaking loose all over the place, but one player who doesn’t appear to be changing sides is Andruw Jones, who has secured the fifth outfielder job in Texas. Meanwhile, Gary Sheffield will meet with Dusty Baker and the Reds today. There isn’t a great fit for Sheffield in Cincy, but from where I’m sitting (and you don’t want to be sitting where I’m sitting; trust...
Sheffield A Low Risk Signing For Mets
Jon Heyman of si.com is reporting that the Mets have signed Gary Sheffield.
Though I’m skeptical about what Sheffield brings to the Mets both on and off the diamond I don’t think this is a bad signing (as I’m sure many Mets fans will think it is). Sheffield will most likely replace Marlon Anderson on [...]
Will The Mets Make It 31-17?
The Mets have have a stellar 30-17 record in Opening Days in their 47 year history.
Eleven of those wins came from Hall of Famer Tom “The Franchise” Seaver. What a stud!
And let’s not forget Doctor K, Dwight Gooden, who won eight Opening Day contests himself. Maybe his nephew Gary Sheffield will help the Mets win [...]

Now we have our own lightning rod...
With the signing of Gary Sheffield one thing is absolutely sure, the Mets have their very own lightning rod. If Sheffield is a successful member of the team then he will be seen as the edgy veteran who pushed a team that struggles in the clutch over the top. But if this club doesn't live up to expectations, there will be many who point to his signing as the down fall of the season...
Sheffield
I was going to try to give my mangled right hand one more day off, but the Mets signing of Gary Sheffield is something to which I just had to contribute my two cents.
I have my concerns about this signing, but not for the reason that many media types have jumped on, that Sheffield is some sort of clubhouse cancer. The truth is that he is a guy that plays hard every day and gets...
Sheffield? Really?
Why Ask For Cancer? On a day where the Mets and their fans are looking to start a new era, a story has hit the wires claiming the Mets have signed Gary Sheffield. Please tell me this is not true. Why in the world would you want this guy? Has Omar no sense? This guy is a chemistry-killer. Sheffield is finished on the field and is the last player you would want in the clubhouse. If this...

Adam Rosales and Bill Bray optioned to AAA.

It appears Darnell McDonald and Laynce Nix will make [...]
Shef makes Wright uneasy......
It's been well documented by now that David Wright reached out to Gary Sheffield to convince him to become a Met and it was those text messages from "the face of the franchise" that swayed Shef to Flushing over several other cities, including division rival Philly....But what would motivate Wright one of the leagues poster children for political correctness to reach...
Let's Rock!
Today is the big day we’ve all been waiting for. Its been a long cold winter after not seeing any October baseball and then having the Phillies take the crown. None of that matters though as we’re about to see the Mets win the season’s last baseball game!***I’m not thrilled with Gary Sheffield being on the team. The thoughts of him taking ABs away from Daniel Murphy or just...
