Congratulations to Carlos, who was a fan favorite during his brief stint with the Mets last season. The season will doubtlessly be filled with peaks and valleys for the young speedster, but it's nice to see him garner so much attention and warm praise in his debut. Who knows, when all is said and done, perhaps the Twins' return for Santana wont' look so paltry.

Moises Alou hopes Steve Bartman's life is ok: He's a little late

So we all remember the Steve Bartman incident from 2003 right? The one where he supposedly cost the Cubs a trip to the World Series for the first time since 1945?

Pedro Rocked, Feels "Pop" In Hammy

First, the bad news: Perdo Martinez was knocked for 3.1 innings in Florida tonight, surrendering two homers and four runs before exiting in the fourth with a hamstring injury. Now, the worse news: According to SNY's Kevin Burkhardt, Pedro felt a "pop" in the hamstring and is on his way back to New York for an MRI. Not encouraging news. Not encouraging at all.

We Got Greedy

We all fell into the trap, and now we're paying for it. Somehow, most Mets fans, me included, actually believed the hype. We heard all the talk about how Pedro Martinez is in the best shape of his life and how he feels ready to go. We all thought he was back to '99 Pedro, back to the glory days of injury-free domination. We couldn't have been more wrong.

TOP 10 FAVORITE METS

Having been a Mets fan since 1973, I starting thinking about my favorite players and I have put together this little list.

Met Pen Has Successful Debut

While much of today's print coverage of the Mets focuses on the debut of Johan Santana and on a team turning the page on The Collapse, there is a great note in the Post today by Bart Hubbuch concerning manager Willie Randolph's bullpen maneuvers in the 8th inning...

Quote of the Day: Moises Alou on Steve Bartman

"Everywhere I play, even now, people still yell, 'Bartman! Bartman!' I feel really bad for the kid. You know what the funny thing is? I wouldn't have caught it, anyway." -Moises Alou on the infamous Steve Bartman foul ball incident in Game 6 of the 2003 NLCS Why didn't Alou come out and say this in the months or even the year after the play happened? He...

Pedro Martinez Leaves Game: Fantasy Impact

Pedro Martinez had to leave his first start of the season against the Florida Marlins in the fourth inning with a hamstring injury. We explain what this means for Pedro and your fantasy team and when to expect him back.

What Had Happened Was… 4.2

Pedro Martinez couldn't fulfill his role as the Number Two punch after Johan Santana. However, you can't blame Martinez totally as his left hamstring strained itself of its own volition. Apparently, it was a move in rebellion to playing second fiddle to Santana's left hamstring.

Figgy on the road

Pedro Martinez must be heading to the DL, no matter what the results of his MRI are, because his replacement, Nelson Figueroa, is almost in Miami.

And the Mets were Worried about Pedro's Arm!

The NY Mets are sure glad they got Johan Santana today as Pedro Martinez told manager Willie Randolph that he might have heard a "pop" in his hammy on that last pitch he threw. Barring a miracle, it looks as if Mr. Martinez might be going back on the DL. The question is, will it be the 15 day variety or longer? Good thing they didn't trade Jorge Sosa as some reports...

Pedro to DL

Pedro Martinez has been put on the 15-day disabled list.

El Duque to pitch in minor league game

Orlando Hernandez is slated to throw in a minor league game for the Mets class A St. Lucie team in it's opener on Thursday.

Phillies Fans Rejoice: Pedro Injures Hamstring

We have our first casualty in the war between the Mets and the Phillies. In the 4th inning of yesterday's loss to the Marlins, Mets pitcher Pedro Martinez threw a pitch, felt a pop, and limped off the field. The initial reports are that Martinez has a strained hamstring, but he is going back to New York today for an MRI. It is almost a certainty that Pedro is headed for a DL...
