Congratulations to Carlos, who was a fan favorite during his brief stint with the Mets last season. The season will doubtlessly be filled with peaks and valleys for the young speedster, but it's nice to see him garner so much attention and warm praise in his debut. Who knows, when all is said and done, perhaps the Twins' return for Santana wont' look so paltry.

First, the bad news: Perdo Martinez was knocked for 3.1 innings in Florida tonight, surrendering two homers and four runs before exiting in the fourth with a hamstring injury.
Now, the worse news: According to SNY's Kevin Burkhardt, Pedro felt a "pop" in the hamstring and is on his way back to New York for an MRI.
Not encouraging news. Not encouraging at all.

We Got Greedy
We all fell into the trap, and now we're paying for it.
Somehow, most Mets fans, me included, actually believed the hype. We heard all the talk about how Pedro Martinez is in the best shape of his life and how he feels ready to go. We all thought he was back to '99 Pedro, back to the glory days of injury-free domination.
We couldn't have been more wrong.

The NY Mets are sure glad they got Johan Santana today as Pedro Martinez told manager Willie Randolph that he might have heard a "pop" in his hammy on that last pitch he threw. Barring a miracle, it looks as if Mr. Martinez might be going back on the DL. The question is, will it be the 15 day variety or longer? Good thing they didn't trade Jorge Sosa as some reports...
