Bobby Abreu's 10th-inning double sent the Yankees to a 2-1 win over the first-place Rays on Wednesday to cap a two-game series sweep. It's hard to call a game before the All-Star break a must-win, but at this time of year this is as close as it gets. It's critical for the Yanks to stay within striking distance of the upstart Rays, who would be well served to build as big a lead as possible in the East, running away and hiding from the more experienced teams that are chasing them. Teams made up of young players, and young pitchers in particular, often hit a wall come the Dog Days of August and into September. Only time will tell if that happens to the Rays, but it won't matter for the Yankees if they're staring at a double-digit deficit. That's why the Bronx Bombers couldn't have picked a better time to string together a couple of the best performances of the season. And after Wednesday's win, they're only 6

  • Have the yanks turned a corner? Interesting question. Let's Analyze. 1998 one Brian Cashman was turned over the Yanks by Bob Watson. 1998 the Yanks won 125 games (PO/WS). Things went along, until the breaks hit. Even George had a fit. Take a look from 2001 till now. What has Cashman done? Randy Johnson, Al Lieter, Kevin Brown, Clemens II. What was their production and where did the Yanks go? So Cashman had the idea of bringing up Wang (good move), we have an aged Moose and then Kennedy, Hughes, Igawa, and more. There is a reason for A, AA, AAA. Preparation. He only did one thing. Kill confidence. Then, the Joba debacle. Hank was right. Hank listens to Cashman cause Hank don't know shit. Hank ain't his Dad. Joba was much more effective coming in before Mo vs a starter. They fired Torre (Cashman). When did you last see a manager change cause the team to flourish. Took his great coaching team and Don Mattingly with him. So, he hasn't gotten any pitching, my mother could manage this team as it stands, he has a vendetta with Bernie Williams which will assure a non-Bernie day, Retired #51, in the old stadium.(Every Yankee fan alive should be driving this to the highest levels - see berniewilliams.net Don't want to hear Hall of Fame, Mattingly got it, ani't in and it will be years if ever (sorry). My point and this will not sit well. Cashman needs to be fired. Theo Epstein of (hard to write) Boston, hard a revolving door. Replaced position players and got pitchers. GM job description. Think about it. Cashman ain't done SHIT. Fire him. Bring in a baseball man. What would George say? My rant
