Frankly, the move stinks of the same sort of narrow-minded, short-sighted maneuvering that has gotten the Yankees in trouble since their last World Championship in 2000.

It is not that bad of an idea. If they have to release Giambi due to blood test results, or the rumors are true that the Angels are looking at trading for the Giambi, why not bring in Helton to swing at that short left field porch?
-
It's an awful idea. Helton is 34, not as good as he used to be and has a huge long-term contract. The Yankees need to stop taking on those kinds of players. If they want to go after a first baseman, they should look at Mark Teixiera. He is in his late 20s, heading into his prime, and only has one year left on his contract.
-
Forget about the Yankees for a second, it would be in Helton's best interest to get the heck out of CO. His time there has been more than exhausted. He needs a new beginning and New York would be quite an upgrade from the Rockies.
-
Helton is due roughly 80 million over the next 4.5 years. The Rockies may be willing to swallow as much as half of that figure, but they'd expect nice prospects back in return - probably nice pitching prospects such as the ones the Yanks acquired for Sheffield and Unit. Why undo all the forward-thinking good that Cashman did in the offseason? Trading prospects for over-priced veterans is exactly how the Yanks' bankrupt their farm system in the first place. If you're paying that sort of price, go after someone like Teixera like valentine_ed suggested. Helton may not even be a productive major leaguer in 2-3 years, and you'd still be on the hook for his ridiculous contract (what was Colorado thinking!).

Pavano Finished In Pinstripes
As fun-filled as it has been, it appears the Carl Pavano Era is over in the Bronx. For weeks the Yankees had been holding out hope that they might yet get some return on their $39.95 million investment. As it turns out, those millions bought them exactly 19 starts.

Yankees Always Dangerous
One of the things that makes coming to New York so special is the tradition and history you get at Yankee Stadium. The first time I ever came here I got to the stadium early and walked through Monument Park. I stopped and read every one of them and soaked it in. It was really cool. Even though I'm a little more used to it's still cool to feel the history. It will never lose...
Mariano Rivera Is Allowed To Struggle
Rivera has been the most dominant reliever in the majors for his entire career, he's entitled to a bad season.
Bronx Bombs
Yankee Stadium is one of the top places - I love playing here. The fans are crazy and they get all over you. I really enjoy it. When they rag you they have some good rags. They throw numbers at you, they do their research. They are great fans.
I remember my first full season when we came here, I was struggling a little bit. I was like 1-4 and my ERA was 5 or 6 and some guy started...
Giambi is a non-athlete
Giambi is torn apart in this article in the NY post by Joel Sherman. Calls him a non-athlete.
"The Steinbrenner Yankees did not care about tomorrow. They gave Giambi seven years, a devilish deal that has brought no championships, but plenty of humiliation for player and team."

The End of PavGirl
Well after much delay and seeing every single doctor on the face of the planet, yesterday it was made official that PavGirl, will be sent down to Bama to get himself some Tommy John surgery and effectively end his tenure as a New York Yankee. Effectively Pavano has locked in his career stats for the New York Yankees now and will at the conclusion of next year raked in $40 million...
Derek the Great
Jeter has surpassed Joe DiMaggio on the all-time yankee hit list. An accomplishment like that really puts a career in perspective. The guy could retire tomorrow and will already go down as one of the all-time greats. What will his career look like when all is said and done?
Outside of Yankeeland, Fans Rejoice At Pinstripes' Misfortune
Written by Jeff Louderback: "For years, the Yankees have represented what most people detest - arrogance, elitism and a sense of entitlement. Baseball fans did not dislike the Bombers because they won; however, they were repulsed at how the Yankees won."
Continuing: "It is obvious that the Yankees have too many question marks in their rotation, and too weak of a...
Ready For Lift-Off?
Roger Clemens has gotten mixed-reviews in his two minor league tune-up starts, but it sounds as if the hurler may skip a start at AAA and head straight to the Majors - most likely when the Bombers visit Toronto.

Beantown Beware
The juggernaut that is the New York Yankees is firing on all cylinders. It may not have been a sweep but you can clearly see a new swagger in their step. Last night's game was great. Schilling got rocked, Pettitte pitched great and Mariano looked like the Mariano of old. I added seven new videos from Section 39. 117 games left, 10 against the front running Red Sox. What kind...
