While you might not find TSP anywhere near the top 100,000 on Alexa, we think the chances of us commanding those types of advertising rates with Mike Hampton's agent might be a possibility. Apparently his agent, Mark Rodgers, has a deal in place with the Houston Astros pending a physical.

We understand that Hampton had a great three years with the Astros, but that was 10 years ago and he has shown nothing since. Ask Atlanta what type of return it received after inheriting his 8-year, $120 million contract in year three from Colorado.

These prices,

2003Atlanta Braves$13,625,000 2004Atlanta Braves$14,625,000 2005Atlanta Braves$15,125,000 2006Atlanta Braves$14,503,543 2007Atlanta Braves$14,500,000 2008Atlanta Braves$15,975,184
Have yielded an average of 14.2 starts, 5.8 wins, 4 losses, and 85 innings per year during his six seasons for the Braves. And it couldn't have excited Atlanta fans too much when Hampton's final month of his contract was the only healthy month during his final three seasons. At least we can finally say we are getting some offseason movement.

The "Who did Kerry Wood Strike Out?" Quiz

On May 6, 1998 twenty-year old Kerry Wood recorded 20 K's against the Houston Astros. It was just Wood's fifth career start. Every batter in the starting lineup struck out at least once, as did the only pinch hitter Wood faced. Can you name every Astro that struck out that day in 5 minutes or less?

The Tao of Fred McGriff - Day 5

A job I've always enjoyed is planning. In college I did the advertising and promotional planning for my school's campus movie theater, and one of my responsibilities at my old job was media planning for a variety of the firm's clients (media planning refers to deciding where and when an ad will run). In my new job I'll be doing more of the same, which is fine by me...

Figgins Gets 6, Lackey Still on 10

The Los Angeles Angels of Anaheim had a tough one last night against the Houston Astros as John Lackey went for his MLB leading 11th win. As lackey seemed off his game early, allowing 6 runs before getting the hook in the 5th, the story of the game became Chone Figgins. Having stuggled since returning from the DL, Figgins had a historic night. His 6-6 night, which included the...

Houston, we have a major rotation problem

Heading into the 2008 season, the Houston Astros’ starting rotation consisted of Roy Oswalt, Brandon Backe, Wandy Rodriguez, Shawn Chacon, and Chris Sampson. That is to say, it consisted of Roy Oswalt and four question marks. So far, however, Roy Oswalt has also been more of a mystery than a ce...

Glavine Notches 299

Last night Tom Glavine moved one step closer to the history books, winning his career 299th game as the Mets beat the Pirates 6-3. Paul Lo Duca helped Glavine's cause, going two-for-four with four RBIs. Glavine went six innings and allowed three runs before turning the game over to Aaron Heilman and Billy Wagner, who picked up his twenty-third save of the season. In what...

Losing Some Pals Over Furcal

The biggest sports agent related news of last week had to be the battle of words between the executives of the Atlanta Braves vs. the agents at Wasserman Media Group. And it was all over Rafael Furcal. At the beginning of last week, I remember reading a headline in one paper that read something along the lines of the Braves signing Furcal, but could not find any other source...

Marlins, Astros Eying Pudge?

Free agent catcher Ivan Rodriguez is still looking for a starting job, and is stating his claim for a job in the WBC representing Puerto Rico. Pudge is 5-for-8 with 2 HR so far this Classic, and has no plans to back off his contract demands. Both the Marlins and Astros are looking at Pudge, but are not willing to meet his demands just yet. Sources have informed me that the Astros...
