The SF Giants announced that they have signed former Tigers SS Edgar Renteria for 2 years at $18.5M. The question that people are asking is if anyone else had even been in the bidding for him and if not, why did the Giants pay so much for him when all indications were that he was not worth that much given how bad he has been two out of the past three years. The St. Louis Cardinals have traded for former Padres SS Khalil Greene for two minor league players, one is pitcher Mark Worrell and a player to be named later. That’s not much for a major league SS with pop in his bat. I’m surprised that the Padres couldn’t get more for him than that. The White Sox have sent SP Javier Vazquez to the Braves in a 6-player deal. Along with Vazquez the Braves also received RP Boone Logan in exchange for catcher Tyler Flowers, infielders Jonathan Gilmore and Brent Lillibridge and left-handed pitcher Santos Rodriguez. I would have thought that the White Sox would have required a ma...

Casey Blake is largely seen as a third-baseman.A However, he has played in the outfield before and with much success.A He got the bulk of his games in the outfield in 2005 where he was the Indian's starting Right Fielder and he played 138 games of +8 defense (that is, he made 8 more plays [...]

Sherwd Kenny Williams

Genius? Not quite. But very smart? Yes indeed. By moving Javier Vazquez to the Braves, Williams accomplished a number of important tasks.First off all, Williams rid the White Sox of the 20+ million dollars that is going to be owed to Vazquez over the next two seasons. That's a lot of money to ...

Playing the Waiting Game

It's on the table.$60 MM for 4 years and a 5th year option. Meaning if AJ accepts we'd have him for quite some time and presumably as our #1 starter. Bolstering a staff that currently touts little more than freshman Brave Javier Vazquez and sophmore Jair Jurrjens. But it's all out there now and ...

Braves must fix punchless offense

The Atlanta Braves are looking to add AJ Burnett in homes that he will help a team that ranked 12th in ERA but perhaps they are overlooking an offense that was middle of the pack for the season and one that ranked 14th in home runs. Mind you those are including the 63 runs and [...]

Braves about to offer Burnett a ransom

I'm not sure why the Atlanta Braves are so interested in A.J. Burnett. Sure the 31-year-old won 18 games last season but he also had a 4.07 ERA and looking back at the guys career he has only pitched 200 or more innings three times in the last eight years since he became a regular [...]

Smoltz Progressing Well

I'm sure I speak for many Braves fans when I say that I really want to see John Smoltz back in a Braves uniform for a little bit longer before he hangs up the spikes on a great career. A I also speak for those fans in saying that I don't want to see him play [...]

Burnett Likely A Brave Sooner Than Later

It appears that A. J. Burnett may soon sign a contract with the Atlanta Braves. David O'Brien has reported that the Braves have offered Burnett a 4 year/60 million dollar contract with a 5th year "easily" vesting option worth between 15 and 20 million. This would give us A. J. Burnett at 5 [...]

Who’s the Other Shoe?

The Braves picked up long-coveted starter Javier Vazquez from the White Sox earlier this week. And while he's a nice addition to the staff a?" and a reliable workhorse to ease the burden on Tim Hudson's shoulders a?" I've been holding out for a couple of days, waiting to see what comes next. Why? Because for what [...]
