Have you ever wondered why the American League tends to win every All-Star Game? It's a surprise for us to learn that the AL All-stars have revealed their secret weapon: Ichiro Suzuki's pre-game pep talk. According to Yahoo Sports, "Every year, after the AL manager addresses his team, Ichiro bursts from his locker, a bundle of kinetic energy, and proceeds, in English, to disparage the National League with an H-bomb of F-bombs, stunning first-timers who had no idea Ichiro speaks the queen's language fluently and making returnees happy that they had played well enough to see the pep talk again." "It's why we win," David Ortiz said...

  • I just think its funny cuz Ichiro acts like he cant speak english, always needing an interpretor for media interviews... but every year at the beginning of the All-Star game, he comes out of no where once the teams manager leaves after his pep talk with the team, and goes on a long ENGLISH SPEAKING tirade about the N.L. And new comers are always surprised, because they assumed he didnt kno english, when really he speaks it fluently.

It motivates every to hate the N.L and play their best. While it also give the players something to laugh at and look forward to every yr.

I think its so weird that ever since Ichiro has started that tradition in 2001, the A.L has never lost a game...
  • its an inside joke ichiro has with the whole league lol
  • Thats hilarious!!! I'd love to see this.
  • Lol!

  • Lol.That is hilarious.
  • Trade Ichiro to the National League!!! The National League needs a Japanese All -Star motivational speaker so we can win a game.
  • Wait till Fukudome gets there again next year and gets more fluent.
  • The AL has won 12 years now. That is longer than Ichiro has been giving his pep talk.
  • You've got to love Ichiro!!
My only question is this: why haven't the Seattle Mariners, who happen to be both my home team as well as my favorite team outside of the Dodgers, become as successful as the AL All Star teams of the past 10 years or so? Doesn't he have some sort of speech for his teammates as well?
If not, he needs to start and see what happens. Hell, I'M interested in seeing what happens...

Manny skips 'Media Day;' David Ortiz takes BP

Yesterday at Yankee Stadium was the annual 'All-Star Media Day.' Once again Manny Ramirez didn't feel like showing up to answer questions. This was nothing new as he hasn't popped in for 'Media Day' since 2004 and probably will never come again unless he's in a really good mood. Hell, I'm glad he's actually participating in the game this year,...

The American League has Home Field Advantage.

The pre-game was emotional, the game itself was long and strenuous, but when it was all set and done, the American League came out on top with a sacrifice fly by Michael Young that plated Home Run derby "Winner" Justin Morneau. The 15 inning, 4 hour and 50 minute affair almost led to another embarrasment. Both squads were running out of pitchers and it almost came to...

Drew helps Sox secure HFA again

AL 4, NL 3 (15) WP: Kazmir LP: Lidge SV: None HRs: AL-Drew; NL-Holliday Summary: It was the longest All Star game, time-wise, and tied for the longest in innings, but in the end neither the length nor late hour could prevent the American League from winning its 11th straight Mid Summer Classic, as Michael Young hit a sac [...]

Red Sox prospect named MVP of Futures Game

All it took was two swings of the bat to morph OF Che-Hsuan Lin from an obscure Single-A prospect into a slightly less obscure Single-A prospect. Lin, representing the Red Sox in Sunday's 'XM All-Star Futures Game,' went 2-2 in the game and was named the MVP. His two hits included a solo HR to left and a single. The 19-year old prospect has been touted by some scouts...

On the Scene at the Captain Morgan's All-Star Pose Off

What's a Pose Off you ask? I have no idea. But, given the chance to get my Bill Simmons on and rub elbows with the sluts and pseudo-celebutantes who might attend something called a Pose Off, you best believe I'm taking it.So, here is the true, if not totally uneventful, story of my on location adventure to the Captain Morgan's All-Star 2008 Pose Off, where Captain Morgan...

David Ortiz Rolls with Captain Morgan

I've said it before, some pictures are worth a thousand words. This would be one of them. Somehow I don't think this would be funny if it were any other player, but being Big Papi, it all of a sudden becomes funny. Of course I could be overstating things, but he just [...]

Chicks may dig the long ball, but I love me some Dustin Pedroia.

Yankees Desperate For Sexson

When the Mariners signed Richie Sexson before the 2005 season they thought they were getting a top of the line first baseman they could have in the middle of their lineup for years. Instead they got an overpaid, under performing, strike out king. After putting up three consecutive seasons with a OPS of over .900 Sexson had begun to slip in 2006 and in 2007 bottomed out to a career...

Yankee Stadium goes bipolar

Considering how much money you had to pay to attend last night's All-Star Game in the Bronx, I would have expected the stands to be filled with educated, savvy Yankee fans, not bipolar mental patients. We saw a stadium filled with fans rooting for the American League, but not for any Red Sox players, even [...]

10 HOMERS OF THE ALL-STAR BREAK

Major League Baseball may not be the most exciting of professional sports, but it celebrates better than any other. No lame dunk contests, no potential career threatening scrimmages (ask former Patriot RB, Robert Edwards, how he feels about beach football) and no skills competitions consisting of three Russians, whose names you can't pronounce. Just long balls, Hall of Famers...
