The Mets are expected to make a decision, on whether to send Carlos Delgado to the disabled list, by the end of the week.Delgado has missed three games, for the second time in less then a month, due to a hip condition, that has been described in many ways. While no one has given a clear cut diagnosis, one thing is clear, the condition isn't going away and he'll either have to play through it or be shelved. Jerry Manuel has admitted that he isn't optimistic about Delgado's condition and is very concerned about him moving forward. At this point, I say, place him on the disabled list and hope the rest improves his condition, while allowing the Mets to fill his roster spot, so that they're not constantly playing short handed. According to Adam Rubin if the Mets place Delgado on the DL, the leading candidates to come up are Ramon Martinez and Mike Lamb. Martinez filled in nicely, at the end of last season, for a slumping Luis Castillo and Lamb was once considered a major power threat wit...

Our Crumbling House

So with J.J. Putz developing a bone spur and fixing to be out for a couple of games, and Carlos Delgado perhaps being out anywhere from this weekend to ... forever, this is going to really test Omar Minaya's ability to put together a 25-man roster. So who's scared? When Delgado was day-to-day, I was against putting Daniel Murphy at first base. If you're going to have Murph...

Injury Update: Putz Joins Delgado On Shelf With Bone Spur

According to Adam Rubin of the Daily News, both Carlos Delgado (hip) and J.J. Putz (elbow) have been diagnosed with ailments, but the Mets feel some rest will do the trick and maybe they both can avoid the DL. J.J. Putz is joining Carlos Delgado on the shelf, at least for a few games. Putz had an MRI on [...]

Good timing for Pagan...

It looks like Angel Pagan was bailed out and got healthy, all at the right time. After getting off to a hot start in spring training, Pagan had to have surgery to remove a bone spur in his elbow. While rehabbing in Florida, Pagan was arrested for driving while suspended and warrants due to unpaid tickets. Apparently he was bailed out and finished up his rehab stint in Port St. Lucie...

More of the same on Delgado, Waiting game...

The Mets had a press conference scheduled for 4pm today, I assumed that they would announce, that Carlos Delgado would be placed on the disabled list. However, Omar Minaya basically said that the Mets would do exactly what they have been doing for the last three days. The Mets will keep Delgado on the active roster, despite being unavailable and hope his hip responds to treatment...

Mets Notes: Murphy Bats Third, Church Out Again

Daniel Murphy will hit third and start in left field tonight against the Braves. Fernando Tatis will again start at first base for the injured Carlos Delgado. If Delgado ends up on the DL, look for Murphy to begin getting playing time at first base. Manuel said the team will evaluate Delgado on Friday and will determine if he [...]

If Delgado's done - go after Helton....

It now appears to be a matter of how long Carlos Delgado will be on the disable list, instead of whether he will go on the DL.In fact, Jerry Manuel hinted that they may make an announcement as early as Saturday, instead of waiting til Sunday. Although no official decision is expected until Saturday, the Mets are preparing for life without Carlos Delgado, who seems headed for an indefinite...

Casual Friday: Bad Decisions

The Yankees are all about the pinstripes, in every sense of the word. The rest of MLB is more casual. This is the latest post in a Friday series called Casual Friday, in which I take a quick look around the rest of Major League Baseball.* It appears now that Manny Ramirez did not take HCG, a non-steroid; the drug was not found in his system. That means that the synthetic testosterone...

Mr Mets Daily - Mets "steal" one on the road....

If I told you that Jose Reyes would be out of the lineup (stiff calf) and that despite missing their leading base stealer, the Mets would go ahead and swipe seven anyway, you would probably call me crazy (lots of people do). Yet, that is precisely what happened last night in San Francisco as the Mets topped the Giants by the score of 7-4. Playing without the services of not only...
