The Tribe Daily:
Early news says that we've made another move.. This time going outside the organization.
RP Luis Vizcaino, who was released by the Cubs earlier this year, has been signed.
Vizcaino has pitched 11 years in the big leagues, most recently for Colorado, New York, Chicago, and Arizona, all on one year stints. He's well traveled but he had some relative success in Milwaukee, especially in 2002 when he went 5-3 with a 2.99 ERA, 5 saves, and 79 strikeouts in 81 innings pitched.
He's 34 and started the year with Chicago, pitching four games and not giving up a run. He was traded in the offseason by Colorado to Chicago for starter Jason Marquis.
Vizcaino will take Chulk's spot on the 40-man roster, but it isn't known at this point if he'll go right to Cleveland or make a stop in Columbus to knock off the rust. I'd probably want to go with the last option on that though.
If that doesn't happen, Matt Herges' stay could be a quick one, or Jensen Lewis might get sent down. I'd think Lewis would go down before they waste the Herges bullet before not even testing it out.

Indians Sign Vizcaino
The Indians are preparing to sign reliever Luis Vizcaino, a source told Ken Rosenthal. Vizcaino, who was released by the Cubs, will only cost the Indians 400,000, with the Cubs picking up his 4 million dollar contract. The Indians own the second highest bullpen ERA (6.65 ERA), and they hope a fresh arm can keep their bullpen from falling apart.

Beantown Shakedown - Tribe Wins a Laffey…errr..Laugher
Talk about a strange day in Wahoo-land. The day starts with tales of the horrific bullpen, followed by a mid-day demotion of Rafael Perez in favor of journeyman Matt Herges, and a bullpen that now contains Herges, Masa Kobayashi, and a completely unreliable Jensen Lewis heading into Boston. In a word - YIKES. Next, the [...]
MLB Tribe Fan
Perez out, Herges in!OUT!Today on my way home, I heard that Rafael Perez was sent to AAA Columbus. No surprise here! In his place was called up Matt Herges, formerly of Colorado and Florida San Fran, Montreal and LA Dodgers. Hint to Matt Herges: Note to Matt Herges. I liked your signing with the team. I want to love your signing with the team. Hint: Get hitters OUT!IN!
More Pitching Moves: Laffey to the Pen, Sowers in as a Starter
The moves continue for the Tribe, who have the worst bullpen in the Majors, but are looking to do what it takes to get it straight.
They already made maybe the best move possible today, as they sent Rafael Perez packing down to AAA Columbus. They called up Matt Herges. At this point, it [...]
Shapeup Part Two - The Bullpen
Woa!!Vinny Chulk DFA'd just 5 weeks into the season? Who saw that coming out of spring training.Ah, but for every Vinny Chulk, there's a Matt Herges. The Indians, as you probably know by now, shook up their moribund pen a little last night, designating Chulk for assignment and farming out Raffie Perez. To fill their spots in the pen, the Tribe recalled righty Matt Herges from...
Rafael Perez to Columbus, Herges To Cleveland, Salas Released
Well three people involved in the bullpen move today, one that I said wasn't, but I didn't take into account the fact that they would just outright release him. I meant in terms of getting called up. Rafae Perez is going down, Matt Herges is coming up, and Juan Salas is gone.Matt Herges is getting the call to Cleveland. He's a 39 year old veteran that's pitched for...
The Rest of the First Half of the Season
Gordon Whittenmyer says this:
So far this season, the Cubs’ starting rotation has been the backbone of the team’s ability to hover just above the .500 mark—the starters going 11-7, with a passable 4.35 ERA and 21 starts of at least 6 innings out of 27 games.
All of which makes this five-game mini road trip potentially telling for the rest of the first half of...
Gathright Gone, Wells Up...Cubs Interested in Freel
The Cubs needed to make a roster move with the need to call Randy Wells up for today's start. With MIlton Bradley's ridiculous 2-day suspension loooming and Derrek Lee in injury limbo - too hurt to play, not to hurt to be put on the DL - the Cubs are going to ask Joey Gathright to go the minors. WIth 5+ years of service time under his belt, Gathright can refuse the assignment...
