The short answer? No. I mean, don't get me wrong, Sabathia is a great pitcher. But when you strike the biggest pitching deal in history - particularly in a down economy - that generally suggests you're the best pitcher in the game today. In C.C.'s case, that just isn't true.

Great read, I'm wondering how much Burnett and Sheets get now.

well, Burnett was offered a 5 year 91 million dollar contract by the DAMN Yankees. I'm sorry for the foul language, but its just that I'm sick and tired of the Yankees overbidding on free agents. *I''m a braves fan so I'm letting off some steam since the braves more than likely can't afford him anymore.

I know I'm from Philly and all but Cole Hamels is arguably the best pitcher in baseball. The man is simply unshakable. CC on the other hand was rattled against the Phillies. Hamels just didn't emerge in the playoffs we rode him all the way to the playoffs.

I wouldn't put Hamels among baseball's best -- yet. But as I mention in the article, he's among the shortlist of up-and-comers who are starting to throw themselves into the debate.

why not?? he destroyed the brewers, the dodgers, and the rays. and he was the world series MVP. The only reason he didnt lead the team in wins is because of weak run support.

He had one phenomenal year - but even his year was overshadowed by Tim Lincecum's Cy Young year. For both those guys, I need to see more consistency over a slightly larger sample size before I would consider either the best pitcher in the game - either one could be the next Mark Prior or Oliver Perez for all we know. A proven track record is worth something.

No athlete is worth $160M. Ask the Rangers and the Yankees about A-Rod. This guy won't last another two years without breaking down. Welcome to the world of professional sports.
  • NO ONE is worth that kind of money. NO ONE. but leave it up to the dumbass Yankees to pull something like this. Look at all the other overpaid players the Skankees have and they still suck. hope sabathia goes out and throws his shoulder out on the first pitch next season. Almiost everyone HATES THE YANKEES. F THE YANKEES. a true classless organization. and to those of you idiots who buys tickets to Yankees games, your a bunch of morons to pay those prices. i hope MLB collapses anyway. REAL MEN PLAY FOOTBALL!

Is it the Yankees fault or MLB's for not keeping the league closed until a salary cap and revenue sharing was introduced? You know, the NFL model...

They will just pass it on to us poor fans who will pay more for tickets and concessions to make up for it.

Sabithia is such a great pitcher and could be the stopper the Yankees need to re-establish dominance in the American League. Brian Cashman's career is really riding on the line with this signing. As a Yankee fan I would love to see Phil Hughes become the dominant pitcher on the staff this coming year!!

Saying goes if you got it then Flaunt it and the Yankees seem to have it,So they are going after the Big Names,All these little revenue teams are Hating because of the Yankees Organization's deep pockets plain and simple it's not about Loyalty this game of Baseball is a Business..Players want to get Paid..Real Talk

CC will definately not be worth the money because he will be pitching in the A.L. again and also because he pitched the most innings out of all piitchers and his arm will not be in the best shape.
