Tonight is suppose to be the first game in which Jerry Manuel uses his full squad. Early in spring training Manuel indicated that the March 27th game would be when he rolled out the regular line-up, by today everyone would be back from the WBC and well rested. Most of the regulars are in the line-up tonight except the corner outfielders. Against a tough left handed starter the Mets will use Fernando Tatis and Bobby Kielty in the corner outfield positions. As I've said before it doesn't make sense for the team to take Marlon Anderson over Bobby Kielty. Match-up wise with a lefty dominant line-up a right handed bat makes more sense, Kielty is hitting almost 100 points higher and is a far better fielder. One of the biggest reasons Marlon has lasted this long is his clutch hitting in 2007 and his clubhouse presence/leadership, both are attributes that Kielty possesses.Because of the line-up I think the Mets were hoping to find a veteran right handed bat and Kielty has had a very g...

Starters cont. to struggle
Another day and another starter struggles, I hope they get it all out of their systems in spring training otherwise we won't need our vaunted bullpen. It sure is quite a statement when the guy called inventory at the start of spring is now pitching like the second best starter on the team. Johan Santana looks brilliant and Livan Hernandez keeps chugging ( seemed like a fitting...
Relieve this
Quick thought which I'll try to amplify this afternoon. So in last night's game, with a 3-1 lead in the bottom of the seventh and Damion Easley on second base, Willie pulled Feliciano from the game to send Marlon Anderson up to pinch-hit. I liked the decision at the time, and liked it even more when ...
Bowman leading the league....
Had it not been for back injuries, Mets fans may not have been clamouring for Daniel Murphy or Nick Evans but instead it could have been Shawn Bowman. Entering the 2005 season Bowman was the Mets top third base prospect ( seventh overall), unlike most recent infield prospects Bowman was a stellar defensive player with a decent bat. In fact a few years ago it was conceivable that...
Tatis and Evans Have Righted The Ship
Everyone knows how hot Nick Evans has been this spring as he leads the Mets in homers and RBI's, but there is another righthanded bat on this team that is scorching the ball at the plate; Fernando Tatis.
I heard a lot of moaning and groaning this off season when the Mets re-signed Tatis and said he would be the lefthanded side of a platoon in leftfield with Daniel Murphy. Truth...
