PLAYERS: Barry Bonds

You've got to see this. There's a point to what they saying; however, I think issue with Barry Bonds deals with more of his public persona over the years, he breaking Hank's record, as well as he lying the to Feds. Even ESPN has CHARLES BARKLEY on this! I agree with Barkley 100% on this...
12 Comments:
  • This is not a black white thing. It is a lying thing. McGuire did not lie to the feds. Barry Bonds did. Giambi did not lie. Barry Bonds did.
Vick and Bonds have broken serious laws. Dog fighting and lying under oath to the federal government.
That is why they are being indicted.
I am a huge baseball fan. That is why I am sensitive about Barry Bonds breaking all the records. He has ruined the record books, because of his drug use. His name has destroyed the last 13 years of stats. McGuire used steroids and ruined a few stats. Barry destroyed the stats and is #1. If baseball does not have stats, it is nothing.
I still respect your views and think that this is a topic that everyone can disagree on. I also think that everyone can agree that he cheated, and thus he lied to the feds. I give this article a thumbs up!!! Great collection of videos.
  • If Barry Bonds treated people with respect instead of contempt this wouldn't be an issue.
  • bonds should have known that they were going to come at him because they came at some of the best players in the mlb and they put there behinds on blast real bad too the point that it humiliated them in the public media and in front of fans they messed with my guy sammy sosa and he hit more runs then barry but it's going to always be an issue if they know how you get down they are going to put you out there before a few years ago bonds didn't hit the way way he has been hitting what a lot of these players don't get in there heads is that you have a lot of fans that looks up too them and if they hear about them doing it they are going to think that it's cool for them too do that but in reality they are not looking at the repocussion behind that it might cause them there life or there careers so barry it's not personal but other people have a lot riding on this you are telling children not to do drugs but they see it from all of there rolemodels,so bonds you kicked yourself in the butt, still got much love for ya!
  • I agree. This is a referendum on his personality, his arrogance and the way he's treated people. The feds are going after him likes he's Tony Montana from Scarface, not some athlete who decided to juice himself up. That's the issue I have -- and I don't think it's about race, though it can come into play somewhat in the reaction of some people.
  • It is a very complex story. the lines a burred on this one. I know that I do not like what he did and it has nothing to do with race. I think that the media is taking him on because he is taking them on. It is also the biggest story period. The record holder take steroids and apparently a lot of them. That's a big story. I think that is why McGuire retired. This is what he wanted to avoid.
  • Racial? There should be no racial cards pulled out on this one. Bond's lied, then it should be dealt with, pulling out racial accusations isn't going to help the situation, it's just going to make the deal a whole lot more complicated. They're doing their work, and it was Bond's fault if he did steroids, after all he's the one that's been playing with fire.
  • No, it should be not racial, but some people in the media have raised that issue.

It's about him as a person, he breaking a hollowed record and his arrogance. If this had been "Nice Guy ballplayer" he would most likely have gotten a pass...
  • This wouldn't be an issue if he were not black they (the powerful people) would have swept it under the rug. They still haven't proven anything. They could have let it go. If you are white ask yourself this question, if you found out babe ruth used a corked bat for one of his home runs would you want the league to investigate and put an asterisk by his name? Doesn't any notice that if a back person is a star they just have to go bust him and make him the devil?
  • corked bat = steroids..... not at all. If Bonds was not black, this would not be racial. That is correct. If Bonds was white, it would be a bout him lying under oath. He would go to jail, just like Martha Stewart. I understand that race plays a factor. I just think it is a small factor. It is worth brining up, but it is not the main point at all. He broke the law, and lied about it under oath. Point blank.
  • I will say this, if Barry was in the Ken Griffey mold,de, I am sure he would have gotten a pass and would not have been treated nearly as harsh...
  • It's not racial....what's so racial about this? The fact that Barry Bonds lied under federal law 19 times. And now that's considered racist? Come on now, they're just trying to find a way to knock this "steroid use" off Barry's back.
  • hmmm.
I had no problem with Hank Aaron breaking the record.
or, is he less black than Barry "so what I cheated" Bonds?
    The racial thing is bunk.
If He lied, he should do the time and have his accomplishments examined in that context.

Longhorns Popping a Little White Pill

No one knows Longhorn football better than Bevo Sports. Check this out. "To combat heat related issues, the Texas Longhorns have now started giving their athletes a little white pill. No, not the same pill Barry Bonds takes, but actually a tiny little electronic device that players can ingest. This allows trainers to get internal body temperature readings to insure players...

Baseball Had It's Season: NFL Week 11 Rankings

As the Broncos get set to take the stage on Monday night, the rest of the NFL looks to play up to the Patriots' standards. While much of the sporting world is talking about Barry Bonds or A-Rod and the Yankees, I'm going to crank out the NFL's week 11 rankings with commentary:

Popularity Becoming Expensive for Chelsea's Didier Drogba

"One Chelsea insider claimed Drogba visits the club shop up to 10 times a week and on one occasion walked out of the store with 40 shirts priced at approximately £45 each, setting him back £1,800." Maybe this guy's learned how to have a second job from the likes of Barry Bonds and Pete Rose. I hope we don't find some mysterious person selling tons of signed...

…. Bandwagon

Once upon a time, Frank Deford was one of my favorite writers. I wonder now if I was just naive. Was he always this full of himself? …. But let’s look on the bright side. The Report does give Barry Bonds more esteemed company as a cheat. Right? Unfortunately for him, though, it removes ...

I hope Sugar Shane Mosley was for real

Mosley's stock is arguably at an all-time high, and if there were any doubts about his standing amongst the all-time greats, his knockout of Antonio Margarito erased them all. I felt there was something fishy back in the early part of the decade when Barry Bonds was setting personal and all-time homerun records despite being in his late 30's.I hope that isn't the case...

Hey Thursday, Shut Up

For some reason I don't even care that Pay-Rod is back with the Yankees. And I don't even care that Barry Bonds was indicted. Yawn. So what? Somebody wake me up when they take him to jail. 275 Million Dollars for ten years. That is the craziest thing I have ever heard in my life. [...]

Cards Pass on Bonds

There were confirmed reports from Cardinals camp today that manager Tony La Russa was quietly lobbying for Barry Bonds.  Spring Training games start this week and the home run king still remains a free agent.  There has been little interest in the 43 year old slugger, as an investigation continues ...

Giants Follow Through on Bonds Gear

Shortly before the season began, the San Francisco Chronicle called out the Giants for seemingly removing anything and everything related to Barry Bonds in and around AT&T Park. It seemed odd, considering the Giants coddled and celebrated the slugger along every step of his journey. The Giants respon...

Clemens' legacy is shot down the drain

With the revelation that Roger Clemens has been implicated in the Mitchell Report, his Hall of Fame legacy is pretty much shot down the tubes. You have to put Clemens right there with cheating slime like Barry Bonds and Mark McGwire. If you can't put McGwire or Bonds in the Hall of Fame, you can't put Clemens there, either.

Sell Stock In Boras Corp?

You probably missed it, but the Oregionian had a very humorous piece last week which aimed to get in the mind of Scott Boras [Deep thoughts with Scott Boras]. This was one of his generated thoughts: Indicted? Thank you, Barry. Ain't nobody going to have the time to pile on ol' Scott now. Indicted. Indicted. Indicted. ESPN's going to slug this baby...

Izzo Tied To BALCO Investigation

Larry Izzo: New England Patriots special teams guru Larry Izzo has been called to testify in the government’s case against Barry Bonds. Izzo will testify that Bonds’s trainer Greg Anderson gave him PED’s to use for himself. There was no comment from the Patriots or the NFL about Izzo’s ...

NBA Expected to Borrow $175M Today

With the gloomy economy influencing the bottom line with the NBA, the league is expected to borrow $175 million today to address the losses. According to Tim Lemke of the Washington Times: The league will distribute the funds among 15 teams that requested them, with each team getting no more than $11.66 million. The borrowing, which is in addition to the $1.7 billion credit facility...

NEWS AND NOTES

--Friday's Backyard Brawl will probably be your last chance to watch Shady McCoy play at Heinz Field (for Pitt, that is). [PG]--Congrats to my W&J Presidents, 35-21 winners in their first-round playoff game against Christopher Newport, which is either a school or one singular guy who somehow made it into the D-3 playoffs. Double Standard, No?

Well, here we go again. Another NFL offseason has passed, and we have witnessed 7 more months with player arrests, shootings, and the now-standard prima donna behavior. We've had greed-motivated holdouts, domestic disputes, drug abuse, and Vegas fun gone awry. No, this offseason hasn't been much different than any other offseason in recent memory, and that's what makes it even more...

A-Rod's Press Conference Puts Saga to an End ... For Me

As I watched Alex Rodriguez choke back tears and struggle through Tuesday's press conference at George M. Steinbrenner field, I couldn't help but believe him. But maybe that's just who am I ... perhaps I am too quick to forgive.Whether it's Barry Bonds, Roger Clemens, Brian McNamee or even Jose Canseco, I've been somewhat quick to offer up the benefit of the...
