TEAMS: Washington Nationals, Philadelphia Phillies
After Opening Night's thrilling victory by the Nationals, it's great to see a full slate of games today, including the Phillies taking on those same Nationals this afternoon in their home opener. Brett Myers will take the mound as the Phillies look to defend their National League East crown. Matt Chico will pitch for the Nationals, with first pitch coming at 3:05. The Phillies aren't getting a lot of love from the national media, so let's see if they can prove them wrong again.

im really hoping they come out of the gate strong this year. Im not too worried about what the media says.. they rarely predict the NL East correctly. Some of them have the braves winning the east and i really dont see that happening. LETS GO PHILS.. cant wait for 3 oclock!!!

Opening Day Suckfest 2008
The stadium was packed with the high hopes of fans and brimming with pride as the defending NL East champs took the field. Things started off well, a 1-2-3 top of the 1st by Myers, a 2-nothing lead heading into the 5th, then everything turned to crap...

*Chase Utley and Jimmy Rollins went deep, and overall had solid offensive showings for the game.

Swinging Songs to Start Baseball Season
We celebrate by posting a few of our favorite "sports" songs. You know, those happy songs that pump you up and sort of take you back to the simple days... when you'd sit in the stands and listen to the radio coverage of the ball game while keeping score in your program. These songs bring on a Pavlovian trigger of smelling popcorn, and tasting peanuts, and instantly...

The reviews, and a photo slide show, of the new Nationals Park in Washington, DC are in.
I Don't Have Much of an Appetite, Thank You
You may recall a post from mid-February where I criticized Tolegian's power rankings.
His updated power rankings were recently posted on FOX Sports and he snipes at Lidge again. He originally had the Phillies at #13 and knocked them down to #14 and dedicated almost the entire block of Phillies-related text to Lidge-bashing.

The Nats opened their new park last night, and ECB's own Jeremy was in attendance. Even though he left before the spectacular ending, he gives his review of the new park and the Nationals experience.

Phils Sign Rudy Seanez
Help?
According to the LA Times, relief pitcher Rudy Seanez has been signed by the Phillies and will be activated in time for Wednesday's game. It's time to see if this guy can help the bullpen, after all I've been calling for him to be signed the past 3 seasons. The 39 year old has pitched in the majors for 16 seasons with a handful of teams posting a 4.15 era, 1.41...
Nationals Park Opens with a Bang!
Nationals Park is the new home of the Washington Nationals of the NL East.
Although the Braves tied the game at 2 in the top of the 9th on a Paul Lo Duca (C) passed ball, young Nationals 3B Ryan Zimmerman launched a walk off HR to center with 2 outs in the bottom of the 9th!
Relief is on the way: Phillies Sign Veteran Pitcher Rudy Seanez
After yesterday's implosion, the Phillies are getting proactive in fixing their bullpen. The Phillies have signed veteran right-handed reliever Rudy Seanez. Seanez, 39, is not the savior for the bullpen, but rather a solid addition who strikes out batters at a high rate. Seanez spent last season with the Dodgers, who released him after he struggled this spring with a 7.71 ERA.

Nats score on a Flash
"One thing appears to be certain: The Nationals are not going to have a stagnant offense," MLB.com notes after Monday's game. After blowing a 6-2 lead in the middle innings, the Nats rallied in the ninth, scoring five runs off Tom Gordon (whose ERA, one game into the season, is 135.00). "It's good to score a lot of runs in one inning and show people that we can hit -- and that...
A Washington Nationals Fan Trapped in Baltimore
Three Opening Days have come and gone, and my heart is still on the banks of the Anacostia, waiting for me to retrieve it. I read the blogs about Ben's Chili Bowl, the Five Guys, the walk-off home runs, and the glittering new digs, and it pierces me to the core. The punishment for my negligence is just; a daily baptism in the Baltimore Orioles' underachieving and mismanaged ways...
Opening Day Preparation
The Washington Nationals are now in Philadelphia following an exciting Opening Day 3-2 win last night against the Atlanta Braves that saw third baseman Ryan Zimmerman christen new Nationals Stadium with a walk-off solo home run in the bottom of the ninth inning.
