That extra touchdown late sure helped the Peoria Javelinas in today's "Arizona style" rout of their crosstown Peoria Saguaros today. Balls were flying out every 20 seconds in the latter innings of a game that dragged to its conclusion.
There were 18 walks issued by both teams, so the two given up by Nick Hill in his three innings of work don't look all that bad in comparison. Hill allowed just one run on four hits -- though two of those hits came on softly-hit balls.
Mariners Class A prospect Anthony Varvaro actually picked up the win in this game by tossing a scoreless fourth inning in which he allowed one hit. The bats went crazy once Varvaro left the game. Another Mariners prospect, Joe Dunigan , went 0-for-1 in his lone plate appearance.
Dustin Ackley went 2-for-5 with a walk, a run scored and a stolen base. His first hit came off Mike Leake, drafted six spots behind Ackley at No. 8 overall last June. Leake went on to toss two scoreless frames.
