In a stunning development, catcher Kenji Johjima has told the Mariners he is exercising the out-clause in his contract, allowing him to opt out of the final two years of his deal. Johjima signed a controversial three-year extension in April of 2008, a $24-million deal that paid him $8 million this past season and was to pay him $8 million in both 2010 and 2011.
