The whispers about Kevin Youkilis have gotten louder and louder all season. In April, they were 'yeah man, no way Youk keeps this up for the rest of the season.' Now it's August and the murmurs have become 'dude, I think Youk has a chance to be the AL MVP!'

If he keeps up what he's doing he will have a shot. He gets better every year. This year he is staying healthy. Soxaddict, I think the offseason training in Arizona really helped him. Nice post

Yeah I agree. It also helped Manny (didn't help his attitude though.)

I know it helped Manny also. I thought this year might be his most productive season in a very long time. I had him and Pedroia in previously and deleted them. Enough with Manny. Let's move on!

For the people saying no, give me a better candidate other than the two I mentioned.

it doesn't make sense to eliminate players like a-rod and quentin. where do you draw the line for eligible mvps? do they have to be on playoff teams? teams that almost made the playoffs? teams that were in contention in august? it's an individual award and players shouldn't be eliminated from the race just because the people around them aren't performing. it should be factored in, but if some guy is raking and having a comeback season for the ages i don't think it's fair to discount his efforts because they are on a bad team or in a really tough division.

Life isn't fair. How would someone like Hamilton be valuable to Texas? They'd be 10 games under .500 rather than 4 games under? They still have Kinsler and Bradley, both of whom are crushing the ball.

It's pretty obvious that more voters are voting for players on winning teams nowadays. I don't think we'll see a Alex Rodriguez on the Rangers type winner again. Maybe I'm wrong but that looks like it's how it is.

well for 1 he made them relevant again.
i'm a huge mariners fan, so i'm not the biggest rangers fan, but its obvious that hamilton's work ethic and commitment to turning things around is contagious. at the end of the day it's an individual award. and please, spare me the "life isn't fair" argument.

Carlos Quentin leads the league in go ahead rbi, plus his stats are arguably as good as Hamilton's

Quentin is an easy number one choice right now.

He'll have a shot, but its probably Quentin, maybe Hamilton, hell what about K-Rod in LA?

k-rod has had an unbelievable year. i think even grady sizemore has a good case even though he's on a losing team.

K-Rod is a good choice but pitchers tend to get screwed out of MVP votes, especially relievers/closers.
  • I do not think Kevin Youkilis will be the A.L. M.V.P i think the A.L. M.V.P. will be Josh Hamoltion

I am with you YOUK for MVP !

If he does become MVP will he shave his gottee and wear A-Rod clothes?

its kinda hard tho to be a contender if ur team is under .500 and not even a playoff contender... the team AND the best player in the league will STILL look sucky. Youk has a great chance, before and afer Manny left Youk has brrn stepping it up and hitting homers and maaad rbis in a game... hes looking unstoppable.. always having atleast one or two hits in a game... he HARDLY commits errors.. and was on a errorless winning game streak for yrs... until it was broken...

    I say YOUK for MVP!!
  • Hell, Arod won MVP honors when texas was back 30 games. I would go Youkilis or Mornaeu.
