Lidge was diagnosed as needing arthroscopic surgery on his right knee which was successfully completed today. He had previous surgery in October, 2007 where doctors removed torn cartilage from the same knee.
The probable prognosis after the surgery is that he'd be sidelined for three to six weeks. He is, at best, doubtful for a March 31st opener with the Washington Nationals.

Julian Tavarez Explains Why He Signed With the Nationals
Relief pitcher Julian Tavarez signed a minor league contract with the Washington Nationals on Friday and reported to camp Sunday. When asked why he chose the Nationals, he gave this amazing, hilarious, truthful response:
"Why did I sign with the Nationals? When you go to a club at four in the morning, and you're just waiting, waiting, a 600-pounder looks like J. Lo. And to me this...
Mets Sign Junior Spivey
In order to provide some insurance in the infield, the Mets have signed veteran infielder, Junior Spivey to a minor league deal today. The 34 year old Spivey hasn’t played in a major league game since 2005 with the Washington Nationals where he hit for an unimpressive .232 batting average. This move isn’t really significant at the moment as there isn’t any room for Spivey...

On his first pitch of the first bullpen session during spring training Brad Lidge re-injures his surgically repaired knee...silence. That silence was brought to you by the Philadelphia Phillies fanbase as they collectively held their breath in hopes that Lidge's injury was nothing serious. Exhale- surgery set for today...sh*t! Brad and the club are foolishly optimistic that he'll...
Get Out The Brooms
So what if it's only the Washington Nationals. Â The important thing is that the Cardinals are in the midst of a five game winnings streak, and still tied for the best record in baseball at 5-1. Â Now if only the home opener wasn't washed out (insert dead horse here).Kyle Lohse kept up the streak, an...
Julian Tavarez Confirms: No One Wanted Him But the Nationals
Julian Tavarez is back in the major leagues as a member of the Washington Nationals. Well, okay, he’s only kind of back - he still has to win a job in spring training, not a tall order when your competition is the other pitchers on the Nationals. Anyway, plenty of people - by which I [...]
Nationals have the chance to surge ahead of the competition.
There have been a lot of rumors lately concerning whether Frank Robinson will keep his job now that Davey Johnson has been brought to consult. Some seem to think Johnson is being groomed for the manager job. Robinson has made some mistakes in his time with the Washington Nationals and I agree he may ...

The Right Field Stands at Nats Park are Dunn-Zo
(by Kevin O'Brien) Let's just say, I'm excited to have Adam Dunn on the 2009 Washington Nationals. Hopefully, the team can be competitive so he's not a part of numerous trade rumors during the mid-summer trade deadline.
Lidge Out 3-6 Weeks: Fantasy Impact
Brad Lidge's injured knee will cost him 3-6 weeks. We explain why this might not be a bad thing.
Julian Tavarez Loves Taco-Flavored Kisses
The news that the Washington Nationals had signed former Red Sox player-coach Julian Tavarez came on the heels of Tobin’s latest lament that the Red Sox were getting less colorful and less fun. It also sadly came too late to include in Nationals Ain’t S#!t 2009.
None of that though can diminish the awesomeness of Tavarez’s [...]
Red Sox officials meet with free agent RHP Freddy Garcia
Here is where the offseason takes a funny little turn: in addition to Bartolo Colon, Sox officials checked out another overweight injured starting pitcher, Freddy Garcia. I'm not even sure what to think about this move. He hasn't officially been signed, and won't be until he has tried out for a few more clubs; however, even if he does get snatched up, he won't be in a position to...

March 17, 1938
Joe Kuhel came up with the Washington Nationals in 1930. By 1931, he had taken over as the every day first baseman, a position that had been held by Joe Judge since 1916. Kuhel had some solid offensive numbers with the Nats, though it is likely that he was held down a bit [...]
Smoltz gets 3,000 K’s
On the AP today:
John Smoltz became the 16th pitcher in major league history to reach 3,000 career strikeouts, but was outpitched by John Lannan in the Washington Nationals' 6-0 win over the Atlanta Braves on Tuesday night.
Smoltz fanned Felipe Lopez in the third inning, the veteran hurler's fourth o...
Zimmerman Making a Strong Bid for Nats Rotation
Much like Lannan last year, two young prospects are making it hard for
the Nationals to send them to to the minors. 2007 second round pick
Jordan Zimmerman continued where he left off last season int he
nationals minor league system, impressing the Nationals brass.
Yesterday, Zimmerman came in, relieving Shawn Hill in the second
inning, and pitched 4...
