Yesterday, John Kruk and Karl Ravich were the commentators for ESPN's Grapefruit League coverage of the Mets and the Indians, when Kruk announced his NL East predictions:
Phillies
Braves
Mets
Marlins
Nationals
Did Kruk actually put the Mets in third place??? But what about that Santana guy?
Well that struck up a debate between he and Ravich that's already hit YouTube. Ravish challenged Kruk, insinuating he has a homer.
Kruk: Karl, again, it's their pitching. You know what you'll get from (Johan) Santana, but you don't know what you'll get from Pedro (Martinez) yet. Can he give you 27-32 starts?
Ravich: He's a 20 game winner this year, he said he's back and he felt great today.
Kruk: Okay, well that was after two innings in the minor leagues. I hope he is, he's a fun guy to watch pitch, but that remains to be seen. El Duque, getting older, if that's possible. You saw Oliver Perez today, with the inconsistency that he brings in your rotation. Great stuff, but he hasn't yet in my mind put it together where you can say this guy is a solid number two or number three starter.

phillies ....... he loves us........... santana dont mean shit against our lineup
-
sure - cause there are no key lefties in the phillies lineup, right?
-
But what will he do against this Met killing righty?
-
He's a philly guy. What do you expect?!

The fact that Kruk is the only guy picking the Phillies to win a division they WON last year tells you something about the media as a whole. So don't pick on just Kruk it goes both ways. I haven't seen one publication pick the Phils to win the division this year. I truly believe which ever team Mets, Phils, Braves whichever one has the leasts injuries will win the division. The Mets and Phillies are good we can all agree on that, and the Braves are going to surprise some people .
-
The only reason they won last year was because the Mets collapsed.
-
A win's a win.lol
-
That's been part of the game from the begining.
-
goota love the kuker....but i don't agree with this one!
-
I am a diehard Phils Phan, but honestly the top of the NL East could go easily to the Phils, Mets, or the Braves. #1-3 in the NL East is goig to be hotly contested, and each club has strengths and weaknesses, it's going to be a fun season!
-
Im going to have to agree with Kruk on this one. GO PHILS!
-
Hometown HERO!!!
-
I'm going to go ahead and make my claim...whichever team sustains the least significant injuries will win the division. You can check out our NL east preview that highlights the questions each of the top 3 teams has at blueworkhorse.com.

Post part of your prediction on a new stream...build it and we will come.

When is winning two of three a disappointment? When you're the New York Mets playing the Pittsburgh Pirates. The Mets' offense fared well enough against some decent starting pitching. But one bad inning from Oliver Perez on Thursday brought an end to dreams of the team's first series sweep in a mo...

Game 8: Phillies 5, Mets 2
Record: 5-3
Oliver Perez gave us a little too much Mr. Hyde tonight, falling apart like a stream of packets pinging weblogs.us with 100% latency. God, he was awful. He missed the strike zone about every way you could miss: slider low, fastball high, slider outside, curveball (I think that’s what [...]
Note To Ollie
I briefly went over Oliver Perez yesterday morning, but there was no game today and nothing new has entered my mind regarding the Mets. I do not really care that A-Rod is all grown up these days and realizes he has made mistakes by listening to Boras for some coin, but it actually has a lot to do wit...
Pedro Wants Extension
No, Pedro Martinez hasn't demanded an extension from the Mets (though it's very possible that it's been discussed internally), however according to a report in the New York Post today, Pedro's agent, Fernando Cuza seems to be laying the groundwork for negotiations in the not-too-distant future.
The acquisition of Santana has left an already barren farm system utterly...
Ollie Hopnoodle's Haven of Bliss
In Oliver Perez I trust. He was absolutely amazing last night and everything was working. There were a few articles the other about about how Oliver Perez will most likely be gone if he is a stud this year, but I say why? If Pedro is gone, which at this point is looking more likely ever day he is not...
1st Braves Series
Game 4 was Oliver Perez' fantastic debut, which the Mets won 11-1. I remember reading somewhere that you can tell if Randy Johnson is on by the way his jersey billows out as he pitches. Ignoring for the moment that I've just essentially admitted to reading Jerry Crasnick's ESPN Insider "Major League Bling" [...]
Vargas Gets The Call...Again
David Lennon at Newsday, writes about Oliver Perez on the DL and Jason Vargas taking his place:Perez was scratched from Sunday's start in Philadelphia because of a stiff lower back, but the Mets still considered using him at some point this week. In the long run, however, it made more sense to put hi...
Simon Impresses, but O's Lose; AL East Thoughts into '09
Although the Orioles lost 2-1 to the Mets last night, they got a nice little surprise from Alfredo Simon, who started the game last night for Baltimore. I guess it is safe to assume -- at least from what I have seen -- that Simon will make the rotation, presumably as the fifth starter. Simon -- who is actively looking to make the rotation out of Spring Training -- was impressive...
Game Recap: Mets 2 -- Orioles 1
A much, much better performance from Oliver Perez. On The MoundPerez
made the start tonight for the Mets, his second since returning to the
Mets after the World Baseball Classic. He turned out a much better
performance than his first time around.6 2-3 innings for Perez,
who only allowed four hits and one walk. He struck out three. The sole
run came from a Adam Jones solo home run...
Game Recap: Indians 5 -- Mets 2
In a rain shortened game, Oliver Perez gave up 4 home runs in 5 innings, and the Indians beat the Mets 5-2 in 7 innings.
Perez pitched 5 innings, allowing 5 earned runs on 7 hits and 2 walks. Perez struck out 6. All the runs came on home runs. Victor Martinez, Asdrubal Cabrera and Ben Francisco each has solo shots, while Casey Blake added a 2-run home run. Three of the home runs...
Is there an Ollie factor with Dessens....
When Friday's cuts came and Elmer Dessens was still with the major league team, it seemed to be a matter of the coaching staff wanting to see more of a pitcher who spent most of the camp with Team Mexico in the WBC. After all Dessens has only pitched three scoreless innings in camp this spring, which doesn't seem to be a large enough sample to make a decision in either direction...
