Kunz simply not ready....
I think all of those who were screaming for Eddie Kunz to get his shot as a closer have been quieted tonight. Kunz was brought into the perfect situation to show what he has, the Pirates are a weak hitting team and the Mets were up by six runs. Even those die hard Kunz's fans who believed that closers struggled with big leads or that he was rusty do to having six days off couldn't justify tonight's performance. I've been leery of Kunz since he came up because he simply hasn't looked ready, from giving up the home run to throwing a wild pitch. Kunz in my opinion simply looks like he isn't ready to handle the pressure of the major leagues.
Tonight Kunz faced five batters in which he recorded one out while giving up three runs on three hits, hit a batter and threw a wild pitch. When Kunz left there were two runners on, with three runs in and only one out. Kunz had plenty of time to warm up and after giving up the first two runs it had to feel like it was a closing situation but instead of locking it down, that's when he started getting wild. Not only have the scouts said his secondary stuff isn't ready but his production speaks for itself. I have no doubt that Kunz has the potential to become an elite closer but he's not ready for the majors this year.....
