LIST: Top 10 MVP Candidates. 5 AL and 5 NL

A look at the MVP races in the NL and AL.

  • 1
    Albert Pujols

Everyone thought that the Cardinals were going to be at the bottom of the NL Central, but behind Albert's bat both Ryan Ludwick and Rick Ankiel are having career years and St. Louis is just a half-game behind the Brew Crew in the Wild Card standings.

  • 2
    Derrek Lee

D-Lee never is in the disscusion and I don't know why. He is the best player on the best team in the NL. His average is down than what it has been the last couple years but he is among the league leaders in RBI's and I can't tell you how many runs he has saved thanks to his 'D'.

  • 3
    Ryan Braun

Besides he is one of two players EVER to begin his career with two straight 30 HR seasons(the other being Pujols), he is the do it all man for the Brewers. His offense has been crazy this season, he is third in home runs in all of baseball and fourth in the NL in RBI's. Also the Brewers are leading the Wild Card race.

  • 4
    Ryan Howard

The Phillies are leading the NL East and we all know it's not because of their pitching. They have the best offense in the NL and it is lead by the big bat of Howard. The numbers speak for themselves, although he strikeouts way way too much but just his presence in the lineup and the ability of being able to take any pitcher deep at anytime is scary.

  • 5
    Chase Utley

Like Howard, Utley means so much to the Phillies' lineup. He is fourth in home runs in the MLB and also is in the top ten in RBI's in the NL. The thing I really like about Chase Utley's game is his defense. Not only is he the best second baseman offensivley but also defensivley.

  • 6
    Carlos Quentin

What a breakout season for Quentin, he is the main reason why the White Sox have had a great bounce back season. He leads the AL in HR's and is third in RBI's. Another aspect of his game that dosen't get noticed much is his great defense.

  • 7
    Jermaine Dye

One of the best all around players in the game. Like I said before, Quentin is the main reason for the Sox bounce back but Dye is a big reason also. He should have been an All-Star. Dye is having a great season in every way you can. At the end of the season I think the MVP goes to either Quentin or Dye.

  • 8
    Justin Morneau

The Twins are in contention for the AL Central crown and the Wild Card. Morneau dosen't hit a ton of homers but he always drives in a ton of runs. If he wasn't hitting in the middle of the Twins' lineup they wouldn't be in any race. It's very possible he could win his second MVP award having won it in 2006.

  • 9
    Josh Hamilton

I can't say enough on why he should be the MVP. Hamilton would be a lock for the AL MVP if the Rangers were a game or two behind Boston in the Wild Card race instead of five although the season isn't over. He leads the entire MLB in RBI's and he is third in homers in the AL. There are just too many reasons on why he can be the 2008 AL MVP.

  • 10
    Evan Longoria

I had to put one player off the Rays on here, with the type of year Tampa is having. Longoria's defense and offensene justifies him being on this list. I know Tampa's success is a team effort with the great pitching they are getting but Lonogoria is just having a sensational rookie year.
