Sources close to the Mets are saying they are in talks with the Pittsburgh Pirates regarding catcher Ronny Paulino. Whether this takes place before the July 31st trading deadline or in the offseason remains the question. Paulino is a young catcher who doesn't draw attention to himself, with his best playing days ahead of him; unlike the thirty-five year old Lo Duca.

Paulino is the real deal.

I would seriously doubt the Mets are looking to move one of their better offensive players for the .231 hitting Ronny Paulino in the midst of a playoff race. Paulino was intriguing after his performace last season but has fallen flat on his face in his first opportunity to play every day. The Mets already have a better option than Paulino in backup Ramon Castro. LoDuca is a very, very important member of the team and the attention on him will blow over.

We can do better than Paulino.

Injury Bug Still Bites Mets
This is not good news for Mets fans. Perez and Sosa have had some big game performances this season and are part of the reason the Mets are in first place. If there are any positives to the situation, it's that both injuries are not considered serious (though hamstring and back injuries tend to have lingering effects), and the All-Star game is around the corner, so it's a...
Paul Lo Duca Mets Club House Cancer
Paul Lo Duca, the Mets catcher seems to have a problem with reporters only talking to him and not the "non-speaking" English players on the team. Is the Mets Catcher about to implode? It sure seems like it as he's starting to point fingers.
Zach Duke Seeks 2nd Opinion
Zach Duke is not ready to breathe easily just yet, it seems.
His ailing left elbow has no ligament tears and will not require surgery, according to tests taken yesterday afternoon at Allegheny General Hospital under the supervision of the Pirates' medical staff. The formal diagnosis was irritation of the ulnar collateral ligament.
But that evidently did not satisfy Duke...
Paul Lo Duca "Upset" With Mets Latino Players
Paul Lo Duca seems to be very angry lately. He went apeshit on umpire Marvin Hudson arguing balls and strikes during Saturday's win over Oakland and was suspended two games for his actions. Following last nights rainout, Duke went off to the press about, of all things, the Latino ballplayers on the team and the New York press:
Admitting he was "in a bad mood all day,...
The Wrong John Made The All-Star Game
John Maine
9-4 2.74 ERA 1.15 WHIP
John Smoltz
9-4 2.98 ERA 1.22 WHIP
John Smoltz has been there and has been around the game a very long time but it should be based on this year alone. Maine's numbers are clearly better, put the kid in the game over yesterday's news and take a look at the standings. Maine is a huge reason why the Mets are on top of the Braves.
Still A Chance For Maine
After reading David Lennon’s last post on his Newsday blog (On The Mets Beat), I realized that there is still a chance that John Maine could become an All-Star this year.Common sense would tell us that if even one starting pitcher backs out of the game, that Maine would have to be next in line. If not, then I would begin to get a little irritated on how much the pitchers are weighed...
Pirates' Fans Protest Flops
Despite a much-publicized effort to display fan discontent during the Pittsburgh Pirates' 15th consecutive losing season, only a few thousand fans at most in the crowd of 26,959 left their seats in protest following the third inning of Saturday night's game against Washington.
Organizers who staged a pregame rally outside PNC Park wanted fans displeased with the Pirates...
