While there's a pretty big basketball game in Los Angeles this evening, Phillies fans will be focused on the series opener from Dodger Stadium, now the site of some of the best Philly sporting memories ever.

Before they beat the Rays to be forever known as WFC, the Phillies played that incredibly memorable series against the Dodgers. Personally, once the Phillies reached the World Series, I was confident they'd get it done and bring that parade down Broad Street. But before we faced L.A. in the NLCS, those old Philly nerves and innate skepticism were running rampant.

Obviously tonight's match up is only an early June game against two division leaders but it gives us a moment to reflect on that glorious ride and perhaps motivate the boys to do it all over again.

Shane Victorino and Matt Stairs made it happen in the amazing game four in L.A. with their long ball heroics and their names will come up tonight. Shane Victorino is out of the starting line up with a hip injury that he doesn't believe to be too serious. Stairs could take his place in the line up. [UPDATE: and it's Eric Bruntlett in right]

Cole Hamels, winner of games one and five of the '08 NLCS, will take the mound this evening for the Phils and will go up against Clayton Kershaw. The Phillies beat Kershaw back on May 12th at CBP when he gave up only four hits but four walks and four earned runs.

After sweeping the Padres to keep up great road momentum, catching the Dodgers during their stint without Manny is a nice break, and the Phillies should look to pounce.

Also, a big happy birthday to J.C. Romero who turns 33 today. Let's hope the Phils get a win for him.

The Dodgers fans will likely start to show up at some point in the fourth inning, that is if they show up at all, but Phillies fans will want to tune in at 10:05 ET.

Who needs a trade? Young arms help Phils dominate Pads

I hoped Brett Myers injury would be a signal to the Phillies that things aren't going to go as swimmingly as last season. It appears that it has, as the team has won 6 straight since the injury and have opened up a 3 1/2 game lead on the Mets (they lost this afternoon already, ha!). The day after the Myers injury, it seemed like we had no one we could count on in our rotation...

Future of Phillies pitching is bright and Myerless

While currently a bit of a headache, the future of the Phillies starting rotation looks great. If Bastardo stays up and continues to be sick we'll have a complicated decision to make. Four lefties isn't going to sit well with Charlie Manuel. Moyer becomes the weakest (and it's weak man!) link. I would like to see Moyer enticed into a pitching coach position after he&...

Hamels tosses five-hit CG

Cole Hamels turned in another dominating performance against the Dodgers, pitching a five-hitter for his third career shutout, and the Phillies extended their winning streak to seven games with a 3-0 victory Thursday.

where the boxscore writes itself: 97 pitches, 68 for strikes, 5 hits, no runs. Cole Hamels continued his mastery of the Dodgers and improved to 4-2 (4.40) as the Phillies extended their win streak to a season-high seven. The Phils' 3-4-5 guys knocked in a run each. With the win, the Phillies are four games up on the Mets in the NL East.

A Couple From Jay Jaffe's BP Chat

Here: Jake (LA): Can anyone beat the Dodgers in the NL West? Jay Jaffe: I'll never say never as to whether somebody could beat them out, but they looked like the class of the division at the outset of the year, and even with the major blow of losing Manny Ramirez for a third of the season they've widened the gap. The NL West flag is theirs to lose. jay (LA): Always enjoyed...
