Many people associate Keith Hernandez with the number 17, especially if they are a Mets fan. You have to remember though, that Hernandez played with the Cardinals between the years of 1974 to 1983, and for most of that period, he wore the jersey number 37.

Hernandez was very good at the plate. He had a .296 career batting average and 162 career home runs. But, he was phenomenal in the field. He won the Gold Glove award at first base for every year between 1978 and 1988. Impressive. Hernandez' career fielding percentage was .994 with only 115 errors in 19.591 chances.

He was a member of two World Series Championship teams: the 1982 St. Louis Cardinals and the 1986 New York Mets. He had 2,182 hits in his career and had more walks than he did strikeouts.

Did you know......that Hernandez was taken in the 42nd round of the 1971 amateur draft by the Cardinals?

Book Review: Darling’s The Complete Game

When I first started to be a Mets fan in the late seventies the team sucked. As I grew into my teens the organization was acquiring the talent that would lead to 1986 world series champions. Just as I was getting more heavily into my fandom players like Keith Hernandez and George Foster were [...]

Sanchez Throws Out Ceremonial Pitch for the New York Mets

It was a lobber well out of the strike zone, but the quarterback was playing it safe to avoid bouncing one and the inevitable boos that would follow. New York Jets...

Seriously, when was the last time the Mets made a win look as easy as they did last night? As accustomed as we've all grown to the Mets scoring runs in the first inning, rarely do we see them pile on the way they did last night. Ordinarily, the Mets would have tacked on those first two runs, sent a man to the plate with the bases loaded and seen the inning die, the opposing team...
