Could the MLB Trade rumors be true that that LA Angels might trade relief pitcher, Francisco Rodriguez? Back in February, Rodriguez was not offered his requested 12.5 Million dollar salary but rather only was offered $10 Million to continue to playing for the Los Angeles Angels. The negotiations had the closer seeking a long-term contract for the first time with the Angels. Previous years had Rodriguez only signing one year contracts even though he was offered longer ones. Perhaps the offer may have been a lot stronger for the 26 year old from Venezuela had he pitched a better 2007 season in which he didn't fare to well. It's well known that Rodriguez is entertaining thoughts of becoming a free agent after the 2008 season. MLB rumors are abound whether or not other teams will be interested in signing him if they know he is going to be shopping himself around. The answer to that would be yes because after all Major Leaue Baseball is big business. The interested teams are going to be thinking about what they are going to do to outbid another team, how much they are going to offer him and bottom-line – is he worth it. Sport Tidbits: Last night's game against the Cleveland Indians, found Francisco Rodriguez with weak legs and it affected his fastball. He told the Los Angeles Times, "I might need to give it a couple of days." He's suffering from soreness in both of his ankles from one injury back in August when he landed on a hole on the pitcher's mound and another injury from of all things, a minor fall in the dugout. Gotta watch out for those dugout steps! See my previous post, Random Injury Places Navarro Out of Baseball Commission.

Princeton Sports Symposium

On December 4, just days before my Fall 2L finals begin, I will be traveling to Princeton, New Jersey with my roommate, who also happens to be Treasurer of the Entertainment and Sports Law Society at the University of Florida. Speaking of which, check out what we have put up thus far for our big symposium coming up in January 2009. I suggest you make it to UF for the event! Anyway...

Scott Rolen Continues Hot Streak

Scott Rolen's HR and 2-3 effort against the Cleveland Indians tonight pushed his AVG to .346 on the season (10 HR, 50 RBI, 49 R). It's obvious Rolen produces at high levels when healthy, but there was some definite concern regarding his shoulder entering the 2006 season. Was 2004 a fluke? Would his 2005 shoulder injury combined with prior back problems sap his power? ...

Mike Lowell Needs A Leverage Lesson

Mike Lowell loves playing for the Boston Red Sox whether they win the World Series or end up losing to the Cleveland Indians in Game 5 of the ALCS. It really says a lot about a modern day player who is not afraid to voice his candid opinion to the media. Most athletes who choose to go this route are covered due to their extreme outspoken personalities (see: Terrell Owens, Chad Johnson...

Ryan Garko and His Undeniable Determination on the Move

Ryan Garko is just trying to get by. Even if that means being thrown out into no man's land. Garko has become an afterthought in many different ways, albeit a 90 RBI afterthought. No one is paying attention to Ryan Garko because now that Victor Martinez is healthy and Kelly Shoppach has shown his power, everyone wants to see both of them in the lineup at the same time. That...

Where the heck was Victor?

Anyone know what the deal was with Victor Martinez today? He wasn't in the starting lineup and the Angels broadcasters (on the dish) didn't really find it worth investigating why. The so-called blog on Cleveland.com made no mention of why Martinez was out. No games summaries that I've come across have any mention of Victor's absence. Even my friends at...

Keepers of the Faith...

In normal fashion Red Sox Nation is in tatters over there 1-3 deficit to the Cleveland Indians. Every player, every comment, every move (or non-move) is under the watchful eye of RSN. And all I can do is sit back and listen to every Armchair GM in RSN and laugh. My friends the world is not ending and more importantly my faith and yours as a Red Sox fan should not sway. This is...

The Mangini has landed...

Looks like Randy Lerner got his man. The Cleveland Browns will introduce their new coach at a press conference tomorrow. The brother in-law of Mark Shapiro general manager of the Cleveland Indians will be the forth full time coach of the expansion Browns. My take on the hire is two fold; I hope he has learned from his mistakes in New York and that Randy Lerner gets the general manager...

Tribe Notes: Injury Scares Subsiding, Top Double Play Duo?

Lucky for the Indians that this year is an extended spring training. With three and a half weeks still to go before the season starts, the Tribe's walking wounded are beginning to work their way back onto the field and into the starting lineup...

Eric Wedge: "Jhonny Peralta is our shortstop."

I guess we have the World Baseball Classic to thank for another pointless round of Jhonny Peralta to third base rumors. It seems to happen every month or two for no apparent reason, other than for some to convey their criticisms of Peralta and Indians management as the opportunity presents itself.

Game #7: Borowski blows Tribe comeback

The Cleveland Indians had overcome an anemic offensive performance and a Rafael Betancourt 8th inning implosion to take a 4-2 lead with a 9th inning rally led by a returning Victor Martinez. Joe Borowski gave it all back after two walks and a single loaded the bases, for Torii Hunter, who blasted a grand slam to give the Angels a 6-4 victory. Hunter had also hit a homer off of...

Stadium Review: Coca-Cola Field of the Buffalo Bisons

The Buffalo Bisons? stadium may not be new, but it does have a new name. After toting around the name of Dunn Tire Park for some time, this off season, those with the team accepted a deal from soda giant Coca-Cola to rename the ballpark Coca-Cola Field. The Bisons have also switched which team they are representing in 2009. This year will be their first year with the New York Mets...

Finally, one for the good guys

Entertaining read about the current Cleveland Indians finally ending their 10-game losing streak.

Lee Scuffles, Sowers Takes a Leap

Cliff Lee throws a bunch of fastballs to tune up, but gives up runs, while Jeremy Sowers takes a huge leap in the competition for the fifth rotation spot. Hafner plays two in a row, Grady plays in center, Garko adjusting to the outfield. Plus the economy and minor league notes.
