Ken Rosenthal adds a bit more about the Cubs:
Byrd likely to be targeted by Cubs — 6:10 p.m.
Once the Cubs trade Milton Bradley, their plan is to find a center fielder and move Kosuke Fukudome back to right field.
Free agent Marlon Byrd is certain to draw their interest.
Rudy Jaramillo, the Cubs’ new hitting coach, is a huge fan of Byrd’s from their three seasons together with the Rangers, according to major-league sources.
Byrd, 32, is seeking a multi-year contract after batting .283 for the Rangers last season with a career-high 20 homers and 89 RBIs.
Mike Cameron, 36, is another center fielder who could intrigue the Cubs. Cameron batted .250 with 24 homer and 70 RBIs for the Brewers last season, and his .795 OPS was nearly as high as Byrd’s .808.
Both are right-handed hitters.
Around here we’d all prefer Mike Cameron, but Byrd isn’t too bad either. His defense has been up and down, which isn’t unexpected for an outfielder. His career average UZR in CF is 0. He’s projected by Bill James to be about a league average hitter. Byrd is projected to hit for a .335 wOBA next year. (Marlon Byrd Fangraphs page)
Mike Cameron is the better defender (career UZR of 5 in CF). He’s projected to hit for a .330 wOBA in 2010. So Cameron is the better fielder, but Byrd is probably a slightly better hitter. (Mike Cameron Fangraphs page)
The one thing they do have in common is that they’re going to be hated by Cubs fans. Byrd strikes out less so he may be hated less. Then again, Cameron is the better fielder so he’ll look like he’s trying harder.

Byrd on Cubs Radar?
According to an update from the GM Meetings on FoxSports.com, Marlon Byrd is "likely to be targeted by the Cubs." The Cubs plan to move Kosuke Fukudome back to right field and find a true centerfielder ... once Milton Bradley is traded. Mike Cameron is one of the possible solutions, but the former Brewer is reportedly a back-up plan of a back-up plan at best.

Cubs Potential Offseason Targets: Randy Winn or Marlon Byrd
I had to take a break from the series last week cause of that annoying paying job that I jeopardize every day spending way too much time here on TCR. So I'm gonna double up the efforts and today we look at some more potential center field candidates. Let's start with Randy Winn.

A little on Marlon Byrd
If Matt Holliday and Jason Bay elude the Mets and Mike Cameron wants to remain in center field then the next free agent outfielder would be Marlon Byrd.First let me start by saying, I'm not sure Bryd would even be an up-grade over Pagan. I'm not that familiar with Byrd and have no idea what Pagan will really end up being. But the Mets view Pagan as a 4th outfielder and Byrd...

Cameron Would Be a Fit for Yanks
Those coming to the site have heard me gripe about Mike Cameron being an unacceptable option for left field for the Mets. This doesn’t mean I feel the same way about Cameron and the Yankees.

The Elias Sports Bureau rankings, used to determine free agent compensation, have been released.
As expected Rangers OF Marlon Byrd and C Ivan Rodriguez are Type B free agents, meaning that if the club offers them salary arbitration and the players end up signing elsewhere, the Rangers would receive a sandwich round pick between the first and second rounds of next year's amateur...
Read: Mike Cameron is a better option than Bay
Dave Cameron of Fan Graphs looks through a variety of statistics, and concludes, “If you want a right-handed hitting outfielder this winter, and you don’t want to pony up for Matt Holliday, Jason Bay is not the alternative. Call Mike Cameron instead.”
In his recent Hot Stove preview for MLB.com, Marty Noble listed [...]
The GM Meetings Begin Today
I had thought of something to write about these meetings and then realized I didn’t really care. Nothing will happen that wouldn’t have happened without the meetings. We’ll hear a few rumors over the next few days and read about how the GM Meetings lay the groundwork for trades that take place weeks later or don’t even take place at all. I’m pretty...
BASEBALL BOWLING
*I’m not as big of a baseball fan as many here....but one thing I love about baseball is that weird crap that happens during the season. Baseball is always good for that. I mean, the season rolls along...then Marlon Byrd goes and knocks down an umpire. After a called strike three on a check swing....Byrd was angered and argued with the first base ump. When coming out to left field...
Mets Rumors: Bay, Holliday, Cameron, Delgado
A team insider suggests to Adam Rubin of the New York Daily News that Jason Bay and Matt Holliday may be too expensive for the Mets to consider. Rubin hears that the Mets expect to trade for a left fielder or spend on a second-tier free agent, since the top outfielders on the free agent market may be too pricey.A source close to Mike Cameron tells Rubin that the one-time Met wouldn...
