Found October 21, 2008 on Twins Territory: Yardbarker Blogger Network

I came across a story that had three parts in one. Those parts were Matt Cain, Delmon Young and the Minnesota Twins.

I continue to hear rumors that the Twins want to unload Delmon Young to the Giants. As a Giants fan who lives in Minneapolis, I think this is a great idea. Twins fans are upset with Young because he didn't immediately produce, but he's only 23 with a huge upside and a great arm and he batted right around .300 this year (.290, with 10 home runs and 69 RBIs). Let's not give away the farm for him, though -- we don't need to mention the A.J. Pierzynski trade, do we?

My understanding is that the Twins covet Cain and would be willing to relinquish Young for him. But it's unlikely that the Giants would make that deal, one for one.

I guess anything could happen, but this seems unlikely for so many reasons.

First off, while the Twins will likely deal one of the outfielders, it will probably not be for a pitcher. In the Twins eyes, Blackburn, Perkins, Slowey, Baker and Liriano are a solid young group.

The other reason would be that much more than pitching, the Twins need hitting. They need something in the lineup from the left side of the infield.

Cain might be a solid pitcher to go with Liriano and Baker at the top, but I don't see it.
