The 23-year-old 6'5" catcher will make his major league debut this Friday against the
Detroit Tigers, as announced by team president Andy MacPhail this evening. It's not like he's going to single-handedly drag the Orioles out of the basement of the AL East, but it'll be fun to watch him hit.
Wieters, the O's top prospect, played three years at Georgia Tech before Baltimore used their fifth overall pick on him in the 2007 amateur draft. He then split time between the Class-A Frederick Keys and the AA Bowie Baysox in 2008, where he hit a combined .355 with 27 homers and 91 RBI. He was so awesome, that he was rewarded with the Brooks Robinson Award. Up until Monday, he was batting .285 with a .367 on-base percentage, five longballs and 26 RBIs for the AAA Norfolk Tides.
So what will happen to Gregg Zaun? Pretty sure he can go suck on the bench. Wieters is totally going to kick his ass. Numbers!

I was just watching the MASN broadcast of O’s-Jays, and Andy MacPhail was in the booth with Buck Martinez and Gary Thorne in the bottom of the 2nd inning. As Nolan Reimold grounded into a fielder’s choice, MacPhail made the announcement that O’s fans have been waiting for all Spring.

Ravens coach John Harbaugh will be among those who will be watching Matt Wieters' first major league game. Wieters, the Orioles' high-profile first-round pick, will be making his debut for the Orioles on Friday at Camden Yards.
"I'm jacked about him," Harbaugh said Wednesday.
Harbaugh will be attending Orioles games on Friday and Sunday.

The Orioles have now won the first two games in their series against
Toronto. So now they have won their last two series and 4 out of there
last 5 games. Things seem to be looking up for the O's. Guthrie pitched
an amazing game yesterday and Jason Berken won his Major League debut
today only letting up seven hits and two runs in five innings.

Today’s game is a rematch of Game 2. The Cubs won that game behind a strong outing from Orval Overall. Overall tossed a complete game and allowed just 4 hits and a run. I am all for Matt Wieters coming up to the majors, being annointed as the savior of the franchise, selling tickets and walking on water; however, for all my excitement -- will he make the team better? Not really -- at least now? I do love that the best prospect in the game will make his debut in the black and the orange on Friday against the Tigers, but the influx of young talent...
