Eli's MLB Rumors:
The Nationals traded relief pitcher Luis Ayala to the Mets today for infielder Anderson Hernandez. Ayala, who is 1-8 this season with a 5.77 ERA, requested a trade weeks ago because he needed a change of scenery. This is a great move for the Mets who acquire a pitcher who should be very effective playing for a contender. Before 2008, Ayala 's career record stood at 26-24 with a 2.46 ERA in 258 career games.

Interesting roster moves coming....
The Mets have three players currently on rehab assignment, once a player has completed the required disabled list days ( 15/60 days) and is cleared by the medical staff to resume baseball activities, the team is required to re-instate that player 20 days from his first rehab game ( 30 days pitchers).Of the three players Luis Castillo is the closest to returning but he's also...
Parnell started strong but faded in the end.....
The Mets second best pitching prospect is trying to dispel the label of reliever. Robert Parnell has been projected as a top reliever but the pitching prospect has been starting since selected by the Mets in 2005. His first year wasn't very note worthy in 2006 but in 2007 he started 29 games going 8-8 with a 4.19 ERA between FSL and Binghamton. This year he started 24 games for...

Church Factor:
The seemingly endless Ryan Church Ryan Church saga took a positive turn yesterday when he made his first game appearance of any kind in nearly six weeks.
Serving as the designated hitter, Church went 1-for-3 with an RBI single against the Cardinals' Gulf Coast League affiliate in Florida. He will play DH again today if he shows no symptoms of the post...

Steve Pearce--Met Killer
Two straight Monday afternoon games against the Mets. Two deficits. Two game winning hits by Steve Pearce.---Pearce has been very unimpressive since his callup, but this makes two weeks in a row that he did in the Mets in the Pirates' final at-bat.-Paul Maholm was shaky early and gave up a run in the first (shocking, I know), but limited the damage and allowed just one more run...

20 Years Ago: A Look Back at the 1988 Mets
The year was 1988. Bill Cosby's sweaters hypnotized us into buying Jell-O Pudding Pops. The nation was swept up in the controversy of the day: Which one of the Golden Girls was Axl Rose singing about in "Sweet Child o' Mine" (Of course it turned out to be Bea Arthur)? And the movie Cocktail inspired a generation of children to quit playing Go Fish, drop out of elementary school and...
Nationals Eying Slugger?
The Nationals have assembled a team that lacks a power hitter to build a lineup around and an ace to work off of in the rotation. They have several young, unproven pitchers in the rotation who could be affected long term by their continued struggles all season. By bringing in a second tier pitcher like Jon Garland to lead this rotation would take a lot of pressure off pitchers Jason...
Pat the bat a Met ?
What a familiar site, Phillies jersey #5 rounding the bases as a Mets pitcher puts his head down. If you look up Mets killer you will find Pat Burrell as the first example. It's been said that his last contract was specifically based on his production against the Mets. Approximately 20% of his HRs and RBIs have come against the Mets. Burrell is a free agent at the end of...
GameDay #123 vs. Mets
Mets (66-56) at Pirates (55-67)7:05--PNC Park, PittsburghPedro Martinez (3-3, 5.37) vs. Zach Duke (4-10, 5.10)[Preview]---------Skyblast THIRD Strike tonight (Phil Vassar). Maybe we can actually win one of them.-And no, Pedro Alvarez is not going to play tonight. Everyone is absolutely ecstatic at the signing, though--as they should be (check any Pirates blog on the sidebar). It...
Mets 7, Pirates 4
Zach Duke was destroyed.-The Pirate offense was weak, again. Andy LaRoche hit a solo shot and a mini-rally emerged in the ninth, but the Bucs just got 3 of the 6 they needed.-There really isn't much more to say. 13 games under .500 now. Things are bright for the future, but they aren't very bright at the moment.-Tom Gorzelanny dominated down at Indianapolis, taking a no hitter...
