Tim Brown, at Yahoo Sports, is reporting that that the Texas Rangers are shopping All Star second baseman, Michael Young.
The Texas Rangers are quietly shopping shortstop Michael Young, said an AL executive whose team is in the market for a shortstop.
Young, 32, will start to draw on a five-year, $80-million contract extension in 2009. The contract grants him full no-trade rights next season, then limited protection the following two seasons, by which time he'll have 10-and-5 rights.
Jon Heyman at SI.com, confirms the report but adds a little caveat.
The Mets, Angels, Dodgers and Royals are among several teams to inquire here about the availability of shortstop extraordinaire Michael Young of the Texas Rangers.
The Rangers are not shopping Young, but they are willing to listen to overtures on just about anyone, and that includes the five-time All-Star who won a Gold Glove in 2008 and has spent his entire career with Texas.
Obviously, the Mets won't make a move unless they co...

Coming to California
Been a couple weeks since I blogged sorry for the delay. We wrap up our workouts this week and then head to California for the Rookie Symposium Sunday. All the coaches are gone so right now we're just lifting. We'll get a small break before training camp starts in late July. I do miss California and I'm looking forward to spending a few weeks at home. I'm also planning...

The New York Mets have decided to hold off activating Luis Castillo for tonight's game against the Houston Astros. Castillo is expected to wait until next week.
What the hell with Josh Beckett already?
Am I on crack or drugs or is Josh Beckett already being written into tales where he was, without any question, the greatest pitcher to ever live? Take this Tim Brown article at Yahoo. Luis Castillo is expected to make his first start at NYSEG Stadium for the Binghamton Mets tonight. Castillo is 1-for-8 in three starts with the B-Mets and 2-for-28 in 11 rehab games between GCL, St. Lucie and the Binghamton Mets. Let me do the math for you: that's .071.

Castillo re-signs with the Mets
According to Ken Rosenthal of FOXSports.com, citing 'major-league sources,' the Mets and 2B Luis Castillo are close to agreeing to a four-year, $25 million contract.
The Astros, Nationals, and Cubs all had expressed interest in Castillo, whom the Mets acquired from the Twins at the non-waiver deadline for two minor leaguers.

Castillo leading off...
Not only might we be stuck with Luis Castillo but Jerry Manuel suggested that he may use him as the lead-off hitter to get the beleaguered player going. I still think the team will explore every alternative to move him and if they can't, they will sign someone who they can plug immediately into ...
Opinion: Luis Castillo Will Be Traded
This morning, on his blog at ESPN.com, Buster Olney writes,
The Mets also have quietly continued to gauge the market for Luis Castillo, and if they find a taker for at least some of his salary, that would leave them in position to pursue Orlando Hudson, who also is being courted by the Washington Nationals.
This is about the fourth or fifth time I've read a rumor like this...

Mets Non Tender Reyes, Burgos
The Mets have non-tendered reliever Ambiorix Burgos and second baseman, Argenis Reyes.
I expected the Mets to part company with Burgos, especially after the hit and run car accident in the Dominican Republic that left two women dead. Burgos is expected to get major jail time when the authorities are done with him.
Non-tendering Argenis Reyes, actually came as a big surprise to me...

Getting rid of Castillo in the offseason??
The Mets are likely to take a huge financial hit this winter if they are able to trade Luis Castillo and his $25-million contract. But it's becoming more apparent that these two sides are heading for a divorce when this season is over, and the latest example came Tuesday when manager Jerry Manuel opted to start rookie Argenis Reyes over the three-time All-Star.
Castillo was...
