Dom D's Mets Fan Blog:
According to Ken Davidoff of Newsday, The Mets might opt to trade for Bobby Jenks instead of signing Francisco Rodriguez or Brian Fuentes.
The Mets like Jenks' stuff better, while K-Rod's velocity has gone down and it worries the Mets. I wrote in a past article how K-Rod's agent says he can still bring the heat and how he doesn't depend on his fastball. Jenks is only 28 years old and does not make a lot of money.. He only made $550,000 in '08.. If the Mets acquired Jenks, they could then use the money they would give to a big time closer to fill other needs. Remember, this a business and everyone has a budget, even a big market team like the Mets.
My thinking is, by showing interest in Jenks and making it publicly known, it will drop the price down for Fuentes and K-Rod and other free agent closers.
The Mets would have to sacrifice their minor league system for Bobby Jenks (which means they would have to unload a pitcher like Parnell plus others to get him) or they could easily sign a free agent and not give up anything, but amateur picks.

better bang for the buck if you ask me. frankie won't be putting up numbers like this last season. angels starting pitching handed the ball off to him in very good positions. i'd rather have krod on the bump, but the money saved could go towards another position, maybe even a setup guy.

Better move to get Jenks. K-Rod was leaking oil at the end of the season; the streak does not look repeatable for him. Although he is a great closer and pulled off an amazing record, I don't think he can do it again plus he's blown a few saves and rallying is rather prevalent in the NL East, IMO.
