If it wasn't an off day in camp there is no way this would have gotten this much attention. The Mets have signed Junior Spivey to a minor league deal, it's as much an indictment of Ramon Martinez who's hitting .167 as it is a depth acquistion but what does make it surprising is that Jose Valentin and Andy Green are both hitting well. The 34 y/o right handed middle infielder rose to the major league level in 2001, he was an all-star in 2002 and for his first four seasons hit .270. But 2005 was his last season in the majors when he hit only .221, since then he has languished in the minors. It looks like Buffalo will have a very deep infield with Jose Valentin, Andy Green, Ramon Martinez, Nick Evans and Junior Spivey....The Mets signed veteran infielder Junior Spivey to a minor-league contract. Spivey, 34, who played for Arizona, Milwaukee and Washington from 2001-2005, appeared in two games for Boston during spring training last season before being released. He will report...

Mets Sign Junior Spivey
In order to provide some insurance in the infield, the Mets have signed veteran infielder, Junior Spivey to a minor league deal today. The 34 year old Spivey hasn’t played in a major league game since 2005 with the Washington Nationals where he hit for an unimpressive .232 batting average. This move isn’t really significant at the moment as there isn’t any room for Spivey...
Evans moving to 2B ?
It could be a typo but it sparked my interest enough to pass it along. On Feb. 17, 2009 Mets.com updated their depth chart and Nick Evans was made the third string 2B ( he had not been listed at 2B prior to that). I've checked in for the last two days and while they've updated the chart, they ...
Mets Minor League News: Franco, DiFelice, Spivey
The Mets made some announcements today regarding their minor league teams wia the following Press Releases.
The New York Mets today announced the 2009 coaching staff for the Kingsport Mets, the team's Appalachian League affiliate. Former Mets catcher Mike DiFelice will manage and be joined on the bench by hitting coach Ryan Ellis, pitching coach Jonathan Hurst and bench coach Juan...
Things Going Right
Tim Redding won't be ready to open the season with the Mets. John Maine isn't throwing his curveball yet. Freddie Garcia looks like what he is -- a thirty-something pitcher trying to come back from shoulder surgery. Livan Hernandez can't break a pane of glass at ten paces with his fastball.
While spring training 2009 has been a relatively happy camp, there is no shortage...

Placido Polanco was just traded to the Detroit Tigers in exchange for P Ugeuth Urbina and IF Ramon Martinez. More in the next edition of Future Phillies.
Pro Athletes Only…And Agents Are Allowed Too
I just got sent a press release that is a little over a week old, but very relevant to our field of interest. The title, Pro Athlete Media, LLC Announces the Addition of Cathy Rankin as New Host of PAO TV, did not really tell me much, but the first paragraph caught my attention.
This recently launched website satisfies the daily information needs of professional and retired...
...and this one belongs to the Reds!
Reds defeat the Twinkies 6-1.Who is this Lincoln fellow?Even the most devout followers among us sometimes have to ask "Who the heck is that?" when we see the box scores or hear the name announced on the radio. Yesterday, I had to ask who Andy Green was. (He's a guy who killed the Pacific Coast Leag...
Murphy bat hot, glove not so much....
As I've said before I think Daniel Murphy will end up being one of those guys you have to be creative to keep in the line-up. He has a great bat and is one of those players you just want on the field but unfortunately it will be hard to find a permanent home for him defensively. Regardless of David Wright being at 3B reports indicated he struggled at the position, it's also...
Countdown to Opening Day
Opening Day for the New York Mets is just 22 days away. The Mets will
open up their 2009 season against the Cincinnati Reds. I will post an
image of a jersey that will correspond with the number of days
remaining until Opening Day. Since there are 22 more days until Opening
Day, today, we will go with Ray Knight. Knight beat out Michael Tucker, Kevin McReynolds and Jose Valentin...
It's Hard To Ignore Nick Evans Right Now
Yes it's the spring, and yes Nick Evans will probably not keep up this pace...
But, in the unlikely event that he does, what should the Mets do?
Including todays game, a 10-5 win over the Marlins, Nick Evans now leads the team with ten runs batted in.
Evans is now batting .325 with an on-base percentage of .400 and a .600 slugging percentage. That gives you an incredible OPS...
Where's the disconnect over Carp...
Two years ago Mike Carp was one of the Mets top prospects and many thought when Delgado moved on he was the heir apparent. Carp had a miserable 2007 where he was hampered by injuries and the team was dissatisfied with his conditioning. Carp had a solid 2008 in which he hit .299 with a .471 Slg. pct. in Binghamton and was an all-star his detractors will say thats a result of repeating...
Mets: How to Enjoy a Spring Training Game
Today's game against the Marlins featured a remarkable display of bad play in the top of the second. The net result: three very unearned runs, and a four run deficit for Mets leading pitcher Tom Glavine. Were this the regular season, I would be all upset and swearing at second baseman Jose Valentin, ...
On a positive note...Awards, Niese & Wright
While trying to get out of the funk from today's loss which wasn't helped by tonight's Phillies win, giving them a four game sweep of the Brewers, I tried to look at the positive things that came form this weekend's series....Sandwiched between the two bullpen meltdown losses, that weren't helped by lack of clutch hitting was a masterful performance by Jon Niese...
