Well there was some speculation about whether Jon Niese would start on Tues. Just Saturday Lo Hud Journal had an article quoting pitching coach Dan Warthen as saying that Niese was doubtful to start because he didn't like the match-ups. Wagner evaluation expected Monday
With the Mets in Florida, Billy Wagner is back in New York playing catch. Wagner, who was assigned to the disabled list on August 5, has been "long tossing" all last week in an effort to stretch out the stiffness in his right shoulder.

Billy Wagner is expected to throw off a mound Monday in New York. He could pitch in games in Brooklyn later in the week.
Jerry Manuel confirmed Jon Niese as Tuesday's starter in Milwaukee. The Mets also confirmed Bobby Parnell as a call-up.

Wagner to pitch off mound Monday
Wagner is expected to throw off the mound tomorrow. If he responds well, the Mets believe Wagner could make a rehab appearance for the Brooklyn Cyclones during the week.
Phillies release Kris Benson
The Philadelphia Phillies have released Kris Benson. Benson, 32, was 1-4 with a 5.52 ERA in 11 starts for Triple-A Lehigh Valley. He did not pitch at all for the Phillies in 2008, after being signed in February.
Niese pulled from start
With Hurricane Gustavo zeroing in on New Orleans, Jon Niese was pulled from Friday's start with two outs in the third inning.

The New York Mets will officially activate pinch-hitter/utility man Marlon Anderson Monday. He will be available for the series against the Milwaukee Brewers.
