The Mets will have an assortment of left handed relievers in camp to compete for the second lefty reliever spot. However, all of them signed minor league deals and none are guaranteed to make the team.
At a recent press conference, Minaya said he would still focus on the bullpen, specifically a left-handed reliever.
He may have found that player in former Braves reliever, Will Ohman.
Team sources have confirmed that Minaya contacted Ohman's agent on Wednesday to discuss a potential contract. ESPN first broke the story on Thursday.
Ohman, 31, was 4-1 with a 3.68 ERA in 58 innings with the Braves last season after spending his first five seasons with the Cubs. He owns a 4.16 career ERA.
Yesterday I wrote that the Mets needed to add one last left handed reliever to complete what could be one of the most formidable bullpens in the league. I believe that Ohman would be a huge addition if Minaya can seal the deal with him.

The Mets are interested in free agent reliever Will Ohman. Ohman, who went 4-1 with a 3.68 ERA in 58 innings last season, is the top lefty reliever remaining on the market. According to Ken Davidoff of Newsday, the Mets have signed Pedro Feliciano to a one-year contract for $1,612,500 to avoid arbitration.
Feliciano, 32, has become one of the Mets' more reliable relievers. While he put up a 4.05 ERA in 2008, he limited lefty batters to a .280 on-base percentage and .295 slugging percentage.
The pitcher had submitted a salary of $1.950 million...
Remaining Lefty Specialist
Here is a list of remaining lefty specialist. It appears the Mets, despite the need, don’t want to spend major bucks on a second lefty.
