Dom D's Mets Fan Blog:
In the Daily News, Minaya talks how he has laid the ground work for future deals...
"There's no doubt things were accomplished," Minaya said. "Where we are today compared to where we were on Monday is, I think, we were able to at least identify clubs that have needs that you have a match with the needs. You'll see follow-up conversations from here that will build up all the way to the winter meetings."
Of course the ground work of deals can mean trading Heilman, Schoeneweis, and Luis Castillo..It has been speculated by me and many others that the Mets can turn and trade Castillo for Javier Vazquez. There also has been talk of the Mets flipping Heilman to the Rays for one of their young starters...
It looks like the Mets will pursue a free agent closer than trading for one by Minaya's responses , "You'd rather do a free agent than a trade, if possible, because a free agent you don't have to give up prospects, Now, the way it is, everybody is trying to keep their prospects as much as they can. And if you do trades, guys are looking for not only one, but two or three or even four prospects."
Minaya went so far as to suggest an internal closer option for the Mets exists, though using rookie Bobby Parnell in that role clearly is a last resort.
"We'll see," Minaya said. "That's not Plan 1. I'm not afraid to give kids a chance, but that's not your No.1 plan today."

Gold Glove Discrimination Ending Too Slowly
First of all, congratulations to one of my all-time favoritest Devil Rays, El Gato Del Crimen Carlos Pena for winning his first Gold Glove Award.
El Gato has also become the first EVER Devil Ray to take home a Gold Glove Award. SHOCKING a?" I know. Fifty-two fucking years they've been giving out these awards, [...]

K-Rod's agent backs off high demands.........
Andrew Marchand of 1050 ESPN Radio talked to K-Rod's agent Paul Kinzer . The agent for closer Francisco Rodriguez would love for his client to sign the richest contract ever given to a reliever, but at the end of the general managers' meetings he says that his goal is not necessarily five years and $75 million.
In what could result in a more competitive market for Rodriguez...
Boston All-Star Game in 2012?
When I walk into Fenway Park, my entire body tingles. I look around and bask in the history of the place. The electricity in the atmosphere gets my blood pumping faster and I'm enveloped by a feeling of happiness, excitement, and pride. Yes, I said pride; I'm proud of our 'little ballpark that could.'
The new ownership team has done some amazing things to the park...
Worth a Penny
In the wake of AJ Burnett opting out, another flame throwing right handed pitcher has been granted free agency. Today the Dodgers declined the $9 million dollar option on Brad Penny, who never really got going in 2008. Totally understand this move from the Dodgers perspective... how could you commit $9 mil to a injury prone starter when you need to spend every dime available for...
Delgado Wanted Extension
According to Newsday, Mets 1B Carlos Delgado tried to get a 1 year extension through 2010 from the Mets. In which the mets promptly, picked up his option for 2009, and thats it.Carlos seems like a smart fellow, but this reeks of stupidity. I can understand trying to cash in off of a big year, [...]

Reds like Schneider ?
Apparently the catching rumors just won't go away, honestly I'm a bit miffed by the whole situation and not because I'm some great fan of either Brian Schneider or Ramon Castro. But in the whole scheme of things it just seems like they have bigger things to focus on then the catcher's spot. The other thing that's amazing is, there appear to be some organizational...
Two young catchers..Montero/Shoppach
Well if the Mets are truely looking for a catcher, here are two more that are believed to be available. The Arizona D-Backs have budgetary constraints and a depleted farm system. The Arizona Republic speculates that the D-Backs could move catcher Miguel Montero for a 2B and are losing two key bullpen arms ( Cruz/Lyon). I know it's said Arizona decided they dont like Luis Castillo...
Posting to Begin Again
Looking back to my last post date, I've taken over three weeks off from this blog. This was never part of any plan, but simply reflected the fact that my attention was elsewhere.I turned 50 on October 20 (the same birthday as Keith Hernandez and Mickey Mantle, by the way) and that seemed to be ...
Agent for Fuentes: 4 years, 44 Million
The Rocky Mountain news says, that the agents for Rockies closer and free agent Brian Fuentes reportedly put a four-year, $44 million proposal on the table to the Mets.
Executives with Cleveland and St. Louis indicated they would be interested only in a one-year or two-year deal
If you do the math, the Mets will be shelling out 11 Million for the next 4 years. The Mets are...
A Little Bit of Everything At Sheaa??
Last night I headed out to Shea and watched the Mets beat the Chicago Cubs 6-2 to stay one game ahead of the Milwaukee Brewers for the National League wild card spot. But before I recap the experience, a quick back story:
Back in July, my wife calls me at work excited, telling me her job was giving out Mets tickets and that she got two for us. She's doesn't like baseball...
In Omar we trust....For four more...
The Mets made it official today by announcing that Omar Minaya will be the general manager for the next four years. I'm disappointed with how the last two years have ended but lets be real overall Omar has been a good GM.Lets not forget where we came from, between the four years prior to Omar (2001-2004) the Mets had an overall record of 294-352 (.455%) and the best year in...
Rogers' Latest
Phil Rogers of the Chicago Tribune has a great piece out highlighting a lot of news coming out of baseball:Phil Rogers is hearing that Ryan Dempster could sign with the Cubs as early as Thursday. The Cubs are probably hoping to give him a three year deal, but it is likely he will get a four year deal, worth 12-14 million dollars.A The Cardinals could pursue a trade for pitcher Javier...
