WHAT'S THE NEWS

Cleveland's issues have left Columbus in a bad situation as far as able bodied players, thanks to a few injuries of their own.

Stephen Head hasn't played since the first of the month and Wes Hodges' injury has him from playing in the field. Lovullo would like some help in the pen as well, but doesn't know when if or when it's coming.

"I've been hearing about some things about getting some help," Lovullo said. "I don't know exactly what's in line. I haven't really had any names cross my desk."No word on when Head may return to the lineup. They say he's at about 75%.

Armando Camacaro played in Akron's game yesterday, but it hasn't be easy for him to get playing time. With someone named Santana catching and him actually being the THIRD yes THIRD catcher on the roster, he won't play much.

That's kind of the plan though. He's not there to be a player, he's there to get a head start on his coaching career.
''[Indians farm director] Ross [Atkins] called me before spring training started and asked me to come back as kind of a player/coach,'' said Camacaro, who originally signed with the Indians as a nondrafted free agent in 1998 out of Caracas, Venezuela. ''It's a new role for me, but I'm OK with it.''Carlos Santana has a lot of help between Armando being a player/coach and Espino helping him with his English. Camacaro also helps out with the language transition.

These guys go un-noticed for the most part, but you see how valuable they can be. Both Espino and Camacaro are having a lasting impact on the organizations' top prospect and that is huge. A big ups to them.

COLUMBUS

Very well played game by Columbus all around to end their losing ways against Pawtucket, with a 7-2 victory.

Columbus scored a run in the third off a throwing error on a pick-off attempt. Then they put together a six run sixth to put it away.

Oh but he wasn't alone. THE MASCOT, Zach Putnam made his Akron/Bullpen debut, went two innings, gave up nothing and struck out two. Solid my friend, solid.

Akron got a few runs late in different innings, but they were powered by three run inning early. Everyone chipped in though.

Armando Camacaro in the DH role for the night had two hits and a walk, but just one run scored, go figure.

Jose Constanza didn't get a hit, but he scored three times and knocked in a run with two walks. Jerad Head had a RBI as well.

Nick Weglarz is starting to get it going, two more hits for him and two RBI. He's making up for some lost time in the RBI department.

Josh Tomlin got himself win number three with six solid innings, giving up two runs off four hits with five strikeouts. Steven Wright pitched two scoreless innings of relief, and Vinnie Pestano gave up two runs in a non-save situation. With all the rain outs, He needed work.

KINSTON

Kinston's win was a close one and they had to come back in bits and pieces, but they got the job done with a 5-4 win.

A Tim Fedroff ground out scored the go-ahead run in the seventh inning. He also had a hit in his first game back after missing time with an injury.

Matt Brown doubled, had two hits, and knocked in a run behind Matt McBride, who only had one hit last night, but it was indeed a double.
