I originally planned to do one big update, but seeing as how this dragged on, here is the Minor Issues. There were no games, because of rain, what's new, but there was plenty of roster movement.
Here's the make-up schedule for all the rain outs.
Columbus: Another doubleheader with Norfolk. They'll try playing game one at 11:15 today.
Akron: In just a short few hours, Akron will try and make up at least two of their games with Altoona starting at 10:30.
Kinston: The K-Tribe will try and end things with Salem with a double header as well, they start at 5:30.
Lake County: The Captains play at 11:00 AM in the morning today and will try and get in a double header on Friday against Hickory starting at 4:30.
Now that isn't all the minor league news. No, because of all the roster switching, shift switching Bob Kelso shift switching, there was plenty of movement within every team and Shapiro is pretty serious.
First this minor league note. Daisuke Matsuzaka will pitch for Pawtucket against Columbus at Huntington Park on Sunday in a rehab assignment. I'm not sure why the Japanese are making a big deal about it, but I could see why Columbus would. You get to see an MLB star pitch in your park.
Anyway let's recap the roster moves. If you are too confused by everything, just look at the updated roster, which will surely get updated again as we have rotation holes now. Tony Lastoria at IPI was like a... okay I really got nothing, but post after post was ANOTHER MOVE!
So here are those moves, man.
To Columbus is Greg Aquino who was activated off the disabled list to take the spot of... Someone.. It doesn't matter, he's there. Jack Cassel was moved to Mahoning Valley for the time being, just as a paper move of course, because the Indians called up Frank Herrmann from the Akron rotation to replace Sowers. I'm sure more moves will come to get Cassel back, or just release him or Saarloos. If Herrmann is coming up and Rondon is soon to follow at some point, you have to figure the retreads won't last long.
Not sure who's taking Herrmann's spot in the rotation yet, but Zach Putnam will take his roster spot. Despite pitching in the Kinston rotation, Putnam's future is probably in the pen and the Indians decided that given their situation, maybe that move is best to do now. According to Tony, he's now on the Cleveland radar because of all the issues going on. What a rise he'll go through if he makes to Cleveland this year, the mascot tag does wonderful things!
Finally one more minor league note... Kelvin De La Cruz is going to be out for an extended period of time, 2-3 months to be exact, due to that injury he has. It's a left elbow strain and that is no joke with a pitcher, so the off-time is required. This will certainly stunt his advancement because it was expected for him to be in Akron by the end of the year and be making waves in Columbus on the same path. Now he'll probably get back this year and he could start the year in Akron next, but certainly a bump in the road. That's now two possible spots Kinston has to fill in their rotation, because it looks like Ryan Miller's control issues will land him in the bullpen.
