The Mets had a press conference scheduled for 4pm today, I assumed that they would announce, that Carlos Delgado would be placed on the disabled list. However, Omar Minaya basically said that the Mets would do exactly what they have been doing for the last three days. The Mets will keep Delgado on the active roster, despite being unavailable and hope his hip responds to treatment. Minaya stated that they would wait until at least Sunday, before making any further decisions. If Delgado starts Monday, he will have missed seven games and it makes absolutely no sense, for the team to play short handed for that long. Delgado should be placed on the disabled list, not only would that allow the team to call up another player but it would also allow his hip, time to recover. Reminiscent of Moises Alou's hip that went from a strain to a tear, as time past and his condition didn't improve, the description of Delgado's hip seems to get worse. Delgado's hip was initially described as an impingement but now they are saying he also has a bone spur and tear. Delgado, who clearly doesn't want to go on the DL, is saying the hip is feeling better and the Mets have said, they would give his treatment the weekend, before they reevaluate. The Mets said today that their doctors have decided Delgado has an impingement in his right hip, as well as a partial tear of an unspecified area of the hip and a small bone spur in the hip.Delgado is receiving unspecified "therapy" from the club, and GM Omar Minaya said he wants to see how Delgado responds over the next three days before making a call on the DL. source NY Post
