Sports Muffin:
So far the NL is stacked with candidates for MVP. Tough decisions to be made here, but the Hairy Guate is gonna take a stab at it.
1. Chase Utley (Phi), .291 BA, 22 HR, 63 RBI, 57 R
Has slowed down a bit after an absolutely MONSTER start. Gets the slight nod over Lance Berkman of the Astros only because Utley is leading his team towards a division title and the Astros have an uphill battle to get into the playoffs.

Not sure I agree with Utley because the Astros do not have the team the Phillies do.
-
No way.
-
Dan Uggla should be on the list, arguably 1st or 2nd.
-
Yeah that's what I said. Utley isn't even the best second baseman in the NL much less the MVP of the entire league (I also said that ;X)
-
I wouldn't have thought of Dan Uggla, but that's a good point. He's had a great first half, and the Marlins aren't too far behind the Phillies in the NL East. I'll make sure the Hairy Guate becomes aware of his glaring omission next time I see him.
-
If Chipper is anywhere near .400 he is a lock for MVP.
-
-
Haha no way. He's about on par with Chase Utley.
-
Where are the Philly Supporters? I'd be shocked if Uggla keeps up his pace. Lance has better numbers for sure, but not so much better as to ignore the fact that his team isn't good and will probably keep falling in the standings. I was worried to pick Chipper cause of my bias towards the Braves. Also don't think he'll stay healthy enough to keep his numbers high enough.
-
Haha, I was fearing the Phillies supporters would shower every opposition with a thumbs down. I don't think Uggla can keep up the pace either but if the season ended right now I think he'd be more of an MVP than Utley.

Berkman leaves with injury
Houston Astros’ 1B Lance Berkman left today’s game against the Chicago Cubs in the fourth inning. The official diagnosis is neck spasms. Not a good sign that Berkman is already feeling little ailments. This should be small thou and only a day-to-day injury. Darin Erstad replaced Berk...

Don’t have time for an entry today, but Ed Wade must be smiling today, as another fruit of his labor claimed some heavy duty hardware, winning the NL MVP yesterday. Wade, for as much as we panned him as a GM, never traded away Ryan Howard, Chase Utley or Rollins, the three guys who are [...]
Phillies 2009 Promotions - Part 2
So Taguchi Bat Day - Bat day is always one the best giveaways of the season. This season though, the Phil might have made a mistake. On July 24th, all fans 14 and under will receive a So Taguchi Model Louisville Slugger. This bat, modeled after the one Taguchi used all season long, has a tapered black handle but no barrel. When asked about using a bat with no barrel, Taguchi said...
'08 or '09?
I was thinking last night about how historically rare it must be for the Phillies to have four players as good and as cheap as Cole Hamels, Ryan Howard, Jimmy Rollins and Chase Utley. By one measure, the quartet combined for 97 of the team's 260 total Win Shares. For 2008, the Big Four will earn abou...
