The Japanense hurler, coming back from a strained hamstring, did give up a run, but struck out seven out of the eleven hitters he faced. His counterpart on the mound for Washington, young Sharion Martis pitched six shutout innings and only gave up three hits, while fanning four. Alfredo Simon -- a candidate for the rotation -- got plenty of work in as he pitched four innings, and gave up two runs; however, he struck out one. His ERA is a paltry 0.90.
