Season Wrap Up The Yankees failed to make the playoffs for the first time since the 90’s due to injuries, age and the less than expected performance out of some of their up and coming pitchers Kennedy and Hughes, not to mention CF Cabrera. They finished in third place just 3 games ahead of the Blue Jays. Need I say more? If Mr. Steinbrenner (as in George Steinbrenner) were in better health, that might have spelled the end of either manger Joe Girardi or GM Brian Cashman if not both! Hal must be more patient than his father. This was not the senario they had for the final season in historic Yankee Stadium, “the House that Ruth Built”. Holes to Fill They desperately need a legitimate #1 starter as Wang is no better than a solid #2. They may also be in the market for another non-ace with the retirement of Mussina and the possible departure of Pettitte. Then there’s the CF decision and depending on if they resign Abreu, RF as well. There’s also the bac...

Why are Mets getting Cheap, when the seats are getting more expensive?

This year the Mets will be opening up their new ballpark, Citi/Taxpayer field. The Mets have released some of their Ticket Plans which I have posted for your viewing pleasure. The problem I have with the plans like many, are that they are so God Damn expensive and the seating available with the plans suck. The days that we can loge seats (which were good seats) for 8 games are over...

Phil Hughes off-season in review

Phil Hughes went down with a stress fracture in his right rib cage on May 1st. It took him out for most of the season. Prior to the injury, he was horrible. He posted these numbers: 22IP (W-L) 0-4 9.00ERA 13K. When he returned, Hughes posted these numbers in 2 starts: 12IP (W-L) 0-0 2.25ERA 10K. Big difference. huh? Well I figured it would be a sign of good things to come,...

Arod's Thanksgiving Day Adventures

Alex Rodriguez had a busy Thanksgiving. He spent some with his family and he also celebrated Thanksgiving with his girlfriend, Madonna. Before meeting with his family, Alex had brunch with Guy Oseary. (Madonna's manager) A-Rod left the house of his family at approximately 4 p.m. and drove his black Porsche to Star Island, where the 50-year-old singer owns a property. The newspaper...

Without Joba....

While reading the latest post on Pete Abraham's blog where he ranks the Yankees players in order of importance it ocurred to me exactly how important Joba Chamberlain has become to the future of the Yankees.Of the trio of Yankees rookies who were expected to be big members of the rotation last ...

The Case For Mike Mussina in the Hall of Fame

Although I am still not quite sure whether Gabe's last article argued that Mussina shouldn't, as opposed to wouldn't, make the HOF, I am on the "should" side of the debate, as heard during the Roundtable show on Tuesday. I will never get into an argument as to whether a player will be voted into the HOF or receive some end of season award, because we know how...

What to do with Ian Kennedy? Why can't he get it together?

It boggles the mind how Ian Kennedy could be so dominating at the minor league level, and struggle so much in the majors. I know there are growing pains, and it is a higher class of athletes, but it shouldn't be this drastic. You could even argue that he has been better in the minors than Hughes and Chamberlain. Also..he has played two years of college baseball at USC. (Joba...

Future Uncertain for Hughes

After the Yankees season ended manager Joe Girardi said there were only two guarantees for their rotation next season, Joba Chamberlain and Chien-Ming Wang, now it's December and that is just as true as when he first said it. It is a totally different story from one year ago when the Bombers penciled Phil Hughes and Ian Kennedy into the rotation after resisting trading them...

The New York Yankees have retired 16 numbers. The most in Major League Baseball. Have they gone to far?

The New York Yankees have retired 16 numbers. That is the most amount of numbers retired by any team in the history of baseball. The question is..have they gone to far? I think so. I know the Yankees have had an enormous amount of history over the years, and they had some of the best players of all-time, but that doesn't mean every player that walks into pinstripes deserves their...

Arbitration Eligible Yankees

The Yankees have quite a bit of money coming off the books this off-season as some pretty big names are becoming free agents, but they have to make some choices when it comes to offering players arbitration. Abreu Pettitte arbitration casesIf a player is offered arbitration the Yankees can get draft picks from a team signing that player. For type-A free agents the Yankees get...

Just one month ago the Philadelphia Phillies fanbase was gearing up for World Series Game 5.5. This was after Game 5 came to a screeching halt two nights prior in the crappy field conditions of the Brick Cit House, and was postponed because of more inclement weather the following night. After ...

Pettitte to Dodgers?

By now I`m sure you`ve heard that Pettitte's been talking to Torre and that ned Colletti is may have interest in him. I`m really skeptical of this. The Dodgers wouldn't even re-sign their own guy in Lowe who was much better last year than Pettitte, no way they`re going to give Pettitte what he`s ...

The 20 Most-Important Phillies

I stole this idea from Peter Abraham, who is unequivocally the best Yankees beat writer (and, ironically, once worked at the newspaper I'm currently at). (...)
