Game One Hundred Fifty-Five - Cubs 1 Giants 5
WP - Matt Cain (14-7) LP - Randy Wells (11-10) Save - Brian Wilson (37)

The Cubs' offense managed three hits against Matt Cain in eight dominant innings ... and one of the three was a double by Randy Wells. The Cubs showed little to no patience against Matt Cain. They swung at too many first pitches, worked only three three-ball counts, walked twice, both in the eighth inning and stuck out eight times against Matt Cain.
Matt Cain set a new career high with his 14th win on Sunday and improved to 5-2 in his career against the Cubs.
The Cubs lone run came with two outs in the ninth inning. Jeff Baker doubled to left on a 2-2 pitch from Sergio Romo. Bobby Scales followed with his second triple of the year on a 3-2 pitch from Romo. Baker scored and Bruce Bochy...

Slumping Giants clip Cubs to stay 5 games back
SAN FRANCISCO(AP) Matt Cain pitched eight scoreless innings, Eli Whiteside had a pair of RBI doubles and the San Francisco Giants beat the Chicago Cubs 5-1 on Sunday.
Giants beat: Cain wins 2009 Willie Mac Award
Matt Cain could have made a strong case for the Willie Mac Award last year, when he went 8-14 but easily could have gone 14-8 with a little more run support. He did not whine, publicly or privately, and made a strong impression on teammates. When Cain came to...
Cain wins 14th game, give Giants hope for strong finish
SAN FRANCISCO -- Giants manager Bruce Bochy was relieved to see Matt Cain on the mound Sunday, and not the guy who struggled in his previous three starts.
"He's back to who he is," Bochy said. "He had more pitches working and better command. He went out there, relaxed, and pitched."
Cain tossed eight scoreless innings and Eli Whiteside had a pair of RBI doubles, leading San...
Relaxed Cain puts fun over stress, gets win
Whatever their faults, you have to give the Giants this: They reached the season's final week without being eliminated from the playoffs when they beat the Chicago Cubs 5-1 Sunday. Matt Cain rebounded from one of his worst starts as a Giant and held the Cubs...

CUBS IN BRIEF: Wells eager to prove to Lou he is no 'fill-in'
SAN FRANCISCO -- Manager Lou Piniella said it. And Randy Wells wasn't happy about it. And it might be one more reason for the Cubs to like the way their pitching staff looks heading into next season.
A late-season reminder
On a day San Francisco Giants pitcher Matt Cain reminded the Cubs why they lost their two-year hold on the division this year, maybe it was fitting that Alfonso Soriano and Geovany Soto weren't in the lineup.

In no particular order:
-Esmailin Caridad pitched two innings last night to bring his major league ERA down to 1.65 for the season. He also nabbed three strikeouts over the course of the outing. That seems like a good thing!
-Tom...
Nothing short of an inspiration
Milton Bradley got the most attention. Randy Wells opened the most eyes. Carlos Zambrano confounded and at times entertained the most. And Derrek Lee produced the most on the field every day.
